Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics (Switch) - Game #41: Air Hockey

Game #41 on our list of 51 Worldwide Classics is a staple in whatever arcades might still exist nowadays, Air Hockey! In this game, air jets built into the table propel a puck around, and two players use a mallet to hit the puck across the table into the other player's goal. The first player to reach a specific goal score (in this game you can set it to 5 or 10 points, although most real-life air hockey tables I've played set the goal score to 7) wins the game. Pretty simple game.

There are four levels of CPU opponents to face in this game: Normal, Hard, Amazing, and Impossible, which all must be beaten in order. Beat the Impossible CPU to master the game. Also, each time you play it, you can unlock a piece of trivia about the game. There are two pieces of trivia about Air Hockey:

1. Believe it or not, "puck smacker" is not the technical term. It's actually "mallet."
2. It's called "air hockey" because the puck slides on a cushion of air rather than ice. The air comes out of tiny holes on the table's surface.

Personal story: Whenever I go to an arcade with my best friend, I always try to get at least one game of air hockey into our visit. Also, I remember watching a ScrewAttack video about a Japanese arcade game called "Big Bang Smash" which is basically air hockey on steroids.
