Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics (Switch) - Game #51: Spider Solitaire (All Games Mastered!)

Game #51, the final game on our list of 51 Worldwide Classics is another playing card solitaire game, Spider Solitaire! If Hex, Renegade, and 6-Ball Puzzle are the hardest multiplayer games in the collection to master, Spider Solitaire is by far the hardest single-player game to master! Two decks of cards are used for this game. To start, 54 cards are dealt into a 10-pile tableau, with the first four piles having 6 cards and the other six piles having 5 with the last card in each pile turned up. Like Klondike Solitaire, you can move a card from one pile to another in descending order (like moving a 5 on top of a 6) to get to the downturned cards. When playing in Standard or Advanced modes that use multiple suits, you can move a single card on top of any card the next number up, but multiple-card piles can only be moved together if they are the same suit. If you can't make a move, you must deal another card from the deck to each of the 10 piles, thus making for 5 deals before the deck runs out and you lose if you can't make a move after that. Unlike Klondike Solitaire, any card or suited pile can be moved into an empty pile instead of just a King or a King-high pile. You'll want to use this to your advantage on the higher difficulties to dig through to the face-down cards. Also unlike Klondike Solitaire, you can't move individual cards to the home foundations. You must complete an entire pile from King all the way down to Ace in the same suit in order to move it home. The ultimate goal is to arrange all 104 cards into 8 piles of 13 cards of the same suit in descending order (King through Ace) to send them home.

There are three different difficulties to play on: Beginner (only one suit), Standard (two suits), and Advanced (all four suits). Win on each difficulty to master the game (Good luck with Advanced!). Also, the game keeps track of your fastest time on each difficulty, and each time you play it, you can unlock a piece of trivia about the game. There are three pieces of trivia about Spider Solitaire:

1. Spider Solitaire is a type of solitaire played with two decks of cards to form eight stacks, like a spider's limbs.
2. Drawing cards in this variant also covers your working stacks in a new layer that you have to clear out, kind of like a spider's webbing.
3. Since spiders have eight legs, they're technically arachnids, not insects. Spider solitaire is still solitaire, though.

Personal story: I've played a few different versions of Spider Solitaire on old versions of Windows, but this marks the first time I've ever been able to achieve an Advanced 4-Suit victory.
