Oak Island Hurricane Isaias Aftermath Drone Footage

Hurricane Isaias took almost everyone even the veterans who have ridden out hurricanes of much less magnitude by surprise. Oak Island, NC on a full moon and high tide at 8:50 pm with a direct hit around 10:00pm on Monday 8-3-2020 causing a four to six-foot storm surge across much of the oceanfront area of the island. The storm surge pushed water and sand through the bottoms of beachfront homes and buried the streets in feet of sand. Authorities said many structures aren't safe to stay in, so they want people to leave for now.

A mandatory evacuation order for visitors and residents on the western half of the island took effect at noon on Wednesday 8-5-2020, at 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew will remain in effect for the entire island until further notice.

I try to show you some of what I experienced before the hurricane hit to 6 days after when I flew my Autel Evo Drone down Beach Dr. to look at the damage from the air. Many homes were damaged and electricity, sewer, and water had to be turned off for safety purposes so cleanup could start. The National Weather Service recorded a peak wind gust of 87 mph when Isiais hit Oak Island. I was there and rode out the storm with everyone else. Although we were lucky to only receive very little damage from the storm many were not so lucky and the footage shows. #HurricaneIsaias
