Canning peaches--better wait till they're ripe!

I've been canning peaches for about 40 years now. You'd think I'd know when they are ready to can. You'd think I'd read between the lines when Stan asks me obliquely, "Are you sure about this?" I was more worried about over-ripe peaches than under-ripe ones! Misplaced priorities. Again. All's well that ends well, according to Shakespeare and we ended up with 46 quarts of peaches from our one Starking Delicious tree. It's a good thing most of our trees didn't bear this year!
