When Will Justice Arrive?
48th in our series the Book of 1 Peter

I. What Persecution Teaches Us - 1 Peter 4:17
A. The time of judgment begins with God’s people - Isaiah 10:12
1. Thus all the years of persecution of true disciples from Peter’s time till today are just the beginning
2. What does judgment accomplish for God’s people?
a. It withers false disciples - Mark 4:14-20
b. It disciplines true believers - Hebrews 12:5-8
3. What follows in turn is the judgment of those outside of Christ
B. True disciples are those who obey the Lord and endure to the end
1. Salvation involves obedience to the Gospel - to disbelieve is to disobey
2. Thus there can be no thing as a christian murder, christian thief or christian evil doer, or christian busy body
3. It is not that we never sin - 1John 1:8-10
a. But sin is not the characteristic, the habitual practice of our life - 1 John 3:10
b. We are striving towards perfection - 1 John 3:3
4. In our former life we may have been very wicked, but we are no more, and do not identify ourselves any longer with sin - 1 Corinthians 6:9-11

II. The Blessing of Salvation is highlighted by Persecution - 1 Peter 4:18-19
A. Jesus described the way of salvation as narrow and not well populated in contrast with the road to destruction
B. The eternal perspective
1. For the true disciple, this life with all its trials and tribulations will be the only time of suffering we know
2. For the lost, this life is the only goodness they will know
