Cocktails In Pura Vida, Costa Rica! | Master Your Glass
On this episode of MYG I am in Guanacaste, Costa Rica learning all sorts of things about the country and its beauties. Part of that journey includes drinking Guaro and a few Guaro-based cocktails. Guaro is a clear 30% alcohol liquor made from sugar cane. Before it was legally manufactured and sold, Guaro was made at homemade distilleries and was Costa Rica's version of moonshine. Cacique is the brand of Guaro I drank, and it comes in 2 styles: the traditional red label at 30% and the black label – known as superior at 35%.

Chiliguaro
The bartender started by prepping the lip of the cup with salt
1.5 oz. (45 ml.) of Cacique Red label
1 oz. (30 ml.) of lime juice
1.5 oz. (45 ml.) Kerns Tomate
1 dash of Lizano Tabasco
Add all the ingredients above into a shaker. Shake and strain into a shot glass.

Guaro Sour
One egg white
1.5 oz. (45 ml.) of Cacique Red label
2 oz. (60 ml.) Fresh Lemon juice
1 oz. (30 ml.) Simple Syrup (50:50)
Add all the ingredients above into a shaker. Shake and strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
Garnished with a local dehydrated lime
