What's Your Name (Don & Juan, 1962). Live cover performance by Bill Sharkey, Home Studio, Hawaii Kai, HI. 2022-05-31. "Keeping the Oldies Alive"

"What's Your Name," written by the duo's Claude Johnson (aka Juan) who was originally in the Genies, was the duo's only top 40 hit rising to no. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1962 (Whitburn, 2013). They are officially classified as a "one-hit-wonder," although they did chart with their second release "Magic Wand" (no. 91 on the chart) (Whitburn, 2013). "Don" was Roland Trone, who met Johnson in Long Island, NY while both were painters in an apartment building (mentalitch, 2022). "What's Your Name" is to this day one of the great Doo-Wop hits from the '50s and '60s.

Lyrics:

What's your name? I have seen you before
What's your name? May I walk you to your door?
It's so hard to find a personality with charms like your's for me
Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ee

What's your name? Is it Mary or Sue?
What's your name? Do I stand a chance with you?
It's so hard to find a personality with charms like yours for me
Ooh-ee, ooh-ee, ooh-ee

I stood on this corner waiting for you to come along
So my heart could feel satisf-i-ied
So please let me be your number one
Under the moon, under the stars, and under the sun

Oh-oh, what's your name? (what's your name?) Is it Mary or Sue?
What's your name? Do I stand a chance with you?
It's so hard to find a personality with charms like yours for me
Ooh-ee, ooh-ee, ooh-ee
What's your name?
What's your name?
Shooby-doo-bop-bah-dah!!
