The Nissan Leaf was a bold attempt from the Japanese auto manufacturer to popularise Electric Cars and make it a viable mode of transport for the masses. It might not seem like a mammoth task now, but a decade ago, Mass Market EV technology was still in infancy due to high battery costs and lack of Infrastructure. So it’s safe to say that the Nissan Leaf was the pioneer in this space and over time, Nissan has updated its nifty little EV from time to time, and over time, the Leaf as a product saw plenty of improvements.

The early models were only capable of delivering around 73 miles of range on a single charge but gradually these numbers kept rising, without a significant rise in costs. Which brings us to the current versions which are capable of delivering 226 miles of range on a single charge, all while keeping the costs down and without having to sacrifice on practicality or usability. Because of all these developments, the Leaf continues to be a compelling proposition even today in spite the astronomical rise in competition which mostly comes from the Tesla Model 3 and now, the VW ID.4.

Over the last decade, the Nissan Leaf has secured countless awards including the green car visions award and several Car of the Year awards and happens to be the world’s all-time top-selling EV. To celebrate this little EV hero, Nissan has unveiled Leaf10 to commemorate a decade of electric mobility. In its 10-year history, Nissan managed to sell close to half a million of these compact EVs globally, with the US being the second largest market for this frugal hatchback which has reported a sale of around 148,000 units by December of 2020. As a result, the Nissan Leaf earned the title of the World’s all-time top-selling Electric Vehicle as of December 2019, but the leaf was dethroned by the Model 3 in early 2020.

The Leaf10 special edition will be available in European dealerships from February, the all-new special edition will get an all-new exterior color, along with bespoke exterior details derived from the Ariya crossover to make it stand out from the rest of the lineup. However, many of the updated features like the active safety tech and even the in-cabin improvements are expected to trickle down to the rest of the Leaf lineup.
