"I Can't Control Myself," written by Reg Presley, was the Troggs' third entry onto the Billboard Hot 100 chart stalling at no. 43 in 1966 (Whitburn, 2013). Because of the suggestive lyrics, the song's airplay was curtailed in the US, which kept the song from rising higher on the charts (allmusic, 2022). According to Presley, he was in East Anglia "and this girl stood in front of me and she had pillar-box red jeans cut so low you could see her pubic hair. I'm lookin' at her and I'm a bricklayer, not very world wise at that point, and I'm goin', Wa! In the car home it comes to me, (sings) 'I can't stand still 'cos she got me going/Her slacks are low and her hips are showing . . . I never met her, but she designed the song" (songfacts, 2022).
