Today we will be following in the footsteps of freedom seekers who passed through the Indiana County town of Blairsville, PA. The town had multiple safehouses and agents of the Underground Railroad, helping runaway slaves from the south find freedom in northern states and Canada. We'll be discussing some of the key people involved, what techniques they used to hid people, and a attempted Kidnapping by slave catchers that occurred in the center of town. We will also speculate as to the effects the Fugitive Slave Act & Underground Railroad had on people living in the area, leading to the causes and soldiers enlistment in the American Civil War.
