Performance Notes:

Handel’s oratorio-slash-opera, “Semele” was a bit risqué for the time, but most remembered from the music is the tenderest of arias sung by Jupiter. “Where’er You Walk” has gone on to become a beloved recital piece and is often sung for weddings.
The piece is deceptively difficult owing mainly to the control of the soft dynamic. The main goal should be the attainment of maximal serenity in the presentation. The sound should be quiet but warm and confident. To match the rest of the piece, the trill(s) needn’t be flashy. The piece is a subtle seduction of the title character, Semele, by the King of the Gods, Jupiter.

Lyrics:

"Where'er you walk, cool gales fan the glade Trees, where you sit, shall crowd into a shade. Where'er you tread, the blushing flowers shall rise, And all things flourish where'er you turn your eyes."
