Sunday Longplay - Super Metroid + A Link To The Past (SMZ3) Randomizer - Keysanity Run #1

This week on Sunday Longplay, I'm revisiting a crossover randomizer that combines my two favorite SNES games together into one! The Super Metroid/A Link To The Past Randomizer (also known as SMZ3 for short) was recently updated with a Keysanity option that was previously present in the standalone ALTTP randomizer. In Keysanity mode, ALTTP dungeon items (small keys, Big Key, Map) are not tied to their respective dungeons, meaning you can find items for one dungeon in another dungeon, in a cave in either of the overworlds, or even in Super Metroid. But as an added bonus for SMZ3's Keysanity mode, a key system is also implemented into Super Metroid, with certain sections of each area of planet Zebes locked behind clearance keycards. Each area (except Tourian) has sections locked behind level 1 clearance, level 2 clearance (except for the Wrecked Ship and Lower Norfair), and you also need boss clearance to fight each of the bosses. The clearance keycards are also randomized and not tied to their respective areas, meaning you can find a Maridia clearance card in Crateria or somewhere in Hyrule. This added randomness factor more likely than not will require you to visit dungeons in ALTTP multiple times and transition back and forth between games much more often than normal.

Another feature added into the randomizer is the ability to play with custom character sprites for each game. There are only a few sprite choices for Super Metroid, which include 3 different variations of Samus (normal, dark, and Justin Bailey), Mega Man X, Bill from Contra 3, Alice Margatroid from Touhou, Alucard from Castlevania Symphony of the Night, and a few others, but there are a whole slew of various character sprite options for A Link To The Past, so you can mix and match. The character sprites I used for my first Keysanity run are Celes (from Final Fantasy 6) for ALTTP and Justin Bailey Samus for Super Metroid. Because this was my first try at Keysanity in SMZ3, I had my fair share of brain farts. But I have gotten better at it since I recorded this two months ago. It also didn't help that this particular seed took me 2 hours to find my first sword!
