The Battle of the Argonne Forest began in September 1918. Lieutenant Lawrence Leroy O’Kelley, who was seriously injured on the second day of the Argonne campaign recorded a graphic description of the battle, eyewitness accounts of how several comrades died, and with such detail it reads like an action novel. Here is a performance of his account with an introduction describing events leading up to the battle and background information about Vaquois hill his unit was ordered to take.

Here is a link to buy a copy of the journal as published by his grandson Mike O'Kelley.
