History:
Regina Caeli (Latin for “Queen of Heaven”) is a Marian hymn and Catholic prayer. Traditionally, this prayer replaces the Angelus during the Easter season, although today, the Regina Caeli is said primarily in convents and monasteries, where it is sung in Latin. The inspiration for the hymn dates back to Pope St. Gregory the Great (d. 604). According to legend, he heard angel voices, high above the church, singing the first three verses one Easter morning, and he then added a fourth verse, asking for God’s prayers. Over the centuries, as a hymn, the Regina Caeli has been treated musically by many known and unknown composers of sacred music, including Mozart.

On Sunday, 27th December 2020, a ban on public worship came into force. The Irish government had introduced it as part of their draconian lockdown restrictions in a vain attempt to stop the spread of Covid-19. The reality was that you were less likely to catch the virus in a church than in a supermarket as the churches had implemented strict social distancing and cleaning policies, whereas people in supermarkets, despite their best efforts, were generally up on top of each other. What was even more ridiculous about the ban was that when Mass was over the churches were permitted to open and the people were allowed to go inside to pray.

That Sunday might, just after 10pm, I got a call from a friend of mine and he told me that his church congregation, the Sacred Heart Church, had decided to pray the Rosary outside its locked doors while Mass was being said inside; he asked me to film their praying every Sunday with my camera and tripod; he wanted me to keep an eye out and to act as visible deterrent to any sectarian bigots that might want to disrupt their prayers and because I was an atheist he knew I would not get distracted and participate in praying the Rosary.

I thought that my friend was being overly paranoid and I couldn't imagine a scenario that would involve a sectarian disruption of a prayer group in Limerick City, but because he is my friend I immediately agreed to act as human scarecrow to ward of potential bigots from interfering with the Rosary.

Even though I had been raised in the Catholic faith, I was a bit apprehensive about meeting the congregation. You see this was not the usual Mass that I grew up with, this was a Latin Mass and I had a lot preconceptions about the sort of people that might attend. However, my prejudice was soon dissolved by the warmth and friendliness of the congregants and over the months that followed I even may some new friends.

Every week I would perch myself on the steps of a Georgian building across the road from the church and keep watch. On my third week of filming my friend's intuition proved right when three gurriers (we've no shortage of them in Limerick) happened on the scene; they were about to start a disruption when they saw me and my camera and decided to be on their way. Weeks went by and nothing happened, until one Sunday I was informed by the congregants that a tall blonde women with a stern English accent would walk past them and tell them to "move on and pray in their own homes." I knew from the description that it had to be Cllr. Elisa O'Donovan, so i started to keep an eye out for her. On Sunday, 7 March 2021, she decided to shout at me from across the street, saying that she was calling the Guards (police).

Then on Sunday, 21 March 2021, two women that lived across from the church came out and tried their best to disrupt the Rosary, blaring satanic music from Bluetooth speakers. The following week, Palm Sunday, Cllr. O'Donovan showed up and put on an unholy show for my camera, shouting and roaring her head off.

O'Donovan's hatred of Catholics is now an Easter tradition as this Good Friday the English born and raised politician unleashed a deranged Twitter storm against Irish Catholics for celebrating Good Friday in public: https://www.catholicarena.com/latest/odonovaneaster150422

The old anti Catholic sectarian hatred, endemic during the centuries of British rule with the imposition of the Penal Laws and epitomised by the likes of the Orange Order, has been replaced by the woke bigotry of the so-called "progressive" politics of modern Ireland.
