Lawnmower blades DO NOT make good knives

If A knifemaker tells you that lawnmower blades make good knives, it's because they are lying, or they are simply ignorant of the metals in mower blades that would prevent the effective heat treatment necessary for a reliable knife. Not only are the combination of metals an absolute necessity to know, but it's also impossible to get anything even close to proper heat treatment temperatures without an electronically controlled heat treating oven. That is exactly why I use known steel, with known carbon content. If a man wanted to make a novelty knife for himself, that's a completely acceptable reason to use a mower blade.
