Newborn babies lifted on 12-meter poles for holy festival

The southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu was the scene of a bizarre feature on the landscape as devotees celebrated the holy festival of Thookam. Men carrying newborn babies in their arms were hoisted into the air on 12-meter-long poles, and paraded around the temple, to give thanks for the ability to conceive.

Makes the opening scene of The Lion King look a bit tame.
