Erdoan: Turkey to outfit warships with local vertical launch systems | Turkey News | NewsRme
Turkey has made its own vertical launch system (VLS) for naval platforms, which will replace the ones bought from other countries, President Recep Tayyip Erdoan said Friday. The systems will also be used on warships that will be built in the near future.
A test and training ship, TCG Ufuk (A-591) was constructed and delivered to the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) on Friday for a cooperative operation with the Naval Forces Command. It was conceived and built using national resources and skills.
According to Erdoan, the domestic VLS would be installed aboard the Istanbul Frigate, the fifth ship in the MILGEM (National Ship) construction project, which was unveiled last year.
While Turkey has already received four corvettes from Turkish shipyards under the MILGEM program, they have built warships for Pakistan and Ukraine as well.

Russia changes course on Ukraine grain deal after conversation with Turkey's Erdogan
Russia announced on Wednesday that it would renew its participation in an agreement allowing Ukraine to export grain via the Black Sea, just four days after suspending its role in the deal.
The U-turn followed a phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday, and repeated conversations between their defence ministers.
Russia had suspended their participation on Saturday after it blamed Ukraine for a drone attack on Moscow's fleet in Crimea. Kyiv has not claimed responsibility and denies using the grain program's security corridor for military purposes.

Sweden considers PKK a terrorist organization, vows to counter threats to Turkey
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said his government considers the Kurdish paramilitary group PKK as a terrorist organization on Tuesday, after meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan about countering terror threats to the country.
Kristersson said his government would “live up to” the security commitments it made prior to being invited to join NATO. He added that his government has committed US$1 million to the NATO anti-terrorist trust fund.
The Swedish prime minister also said he had “offered ways” to Erdoğan that his country could help Turkey fight terrorism.
Turkey and Hungary are the only two NATO members who have yet to ratify the treaty changes that would approve membership for Finland and Sweden.
