Mykola Leontovych (1877-1921) Carol of the Bells, arr. James Kazik (SATT)
This piece was originally a choral work composed by the Ukrainian composer Mykola Dmytrovych Leontovych. The rhythmic ostinato used throughout the piece was inspired by an ancient pagan New Year’s chant called “Shchedryk.” In the pagan tradition, New Year's was in the spring! The Christmas version of tune was developed in the 1940s.

Traditional, Hanerot Halalu (SAT)
Happy Hanukkah! (excerpt from flutetunes.com) “Hanerot Halalu” (“These lights”) is an ancient chant mentioned in the Talmud, a vast collection of Jewish laws and traditions. It is recited or sung while lighting additional Hanukkah candles after the candle for the night has been lit. The hymn states that the sole intent in kindling Hanukkah lights is to publicize the miracle of the lamp burning for eight days on barely enough oil for one, a miracle described in the Talmud.
Many different musical settings of this hymn exist.

For some reason, on the day I tried to record this duet my recording device kept shutting down preventing me from playing the whole duet in one go. I therefore chose to break the duet up into two parts. This is the second part.
