After being on lockdown for almost 6 months and Metro Manila slowly started opening up, I wanted to find the first adventure I could go to that wasn't too far from home. The atmosphere on the Bijlmer streets is immensely different than that of the city center of Amsterdam: it's very vibrant and multicultural. But the truth is, this Amsterdam neighborhood used to be synonymous with crime, drugs, and illegal immigrants. Many Dutch agreed that the Bijlmer was the first and only Dutch ghetto, the worst reputation a neighborhood can earn in Holland. But I live here today, and I've never felt safer, comfortable, not to mention having the possibility to have a much bigger space than what you would normally get and pay if you lived in the center. So how is it really like to live in this neighborhood? You never know what to expect when you plan last minute. Initially, we were supposed to go to Rizal for another camping/ glamping experience, but since a lot of campsites have been occupied due to an influx in campers, we decided to go somewhere further.. further than Baguio, further than Atok, to Mankayan, Benguet. I decided to do an overnight camping adventure in Calawis in Antipolo, Rizal for my birthday. It was a lot of fun and definitely a birthday celebration I would remember forever :) Since a lot of my friends were first time campers and some were having back problems, I told our tour guide to help us find a campsite that is close to Manila, and also requires only a short hike to get to (not more than 1 hour of walking). On Feb 7, 2021, a snowstorm hit the Netherlands. Instead of staying at home, we decided to brave the roads and visit the city. Almost everyone did exactly that! With lots of people out sledding, building snowmen, and even dancing on the street. It was the first time in many months since lockdown that brought a lot of cheer among all of us. Let's go on a nature hike and explore Hoge Veluwe: the Netherland's biggest and most preserved nature reserve! We all want a bit of an escape somewhere, thankfully the Netherlands is blessed with super unique and diverse nature. Enjoy the autumn scenery and cycle past thick forests, sand dunes, and woodlands. Did you know that Hoge Veluwe consists of a large area of sandy soil formed during the Ice Age? Once completely covered in trees, the park gets its present look from the Middle Ages, when patches of forest were cleared for cultivation. Over time, the sand was blown off these bare patches with dunes building up and leaving some areas reduced to wasteland. 🤯 Would you want to visit this park? And if you have, how did you enjoy it? How did the Netherlands respond and cope up with the coronavirus situation? With the number of cases going up again (as winter approaches), we are back to a partial lockdown! This means REALLY cancelling all travel plans and just staying home as much as possible.
