Red Cross Activities, Norton - Harjes Ambulances Service (1917-1918)
Ambulance drivers sign up at the Norton-Harjes office in Paris and detrain at a camp in France. Shows daily activities at the camp: reveille, the morning toilet, breakfast, inspections, cutting hay, digging trenches, and kitchen police. Gen. Pershing inspects troops and ambulances. Ambulances leave the camp, and pass through rubbled French villages. Wounded are carried on stretchers, loaded into ambulances, and taken to field hospitals.
Training of Engineer Corps Troops, 1918
The 102nd Engineers at Camp Wadsworth, S.C., clear brush, chop down trees, and level a roadbed into the camp. Shows a chapel constructed by the troops. The engineers leave the camp in a motor convoy, winch trucks from mud near King's Mountain, N.C., cross the Yadkin R., and arrive at Fort Belvoir, Va. Antiaircraft searchlights are installed, adjusted, and operated at Washington Barracks, D.C. A pontoon bridge is constructed.

Activities of Graves Registration Service, France, 1919-1920
Reel 1, bodies are disinterred at the Aisne-Marne cemetery, disinfected and cleaned, identified, wrapped in blankets, put into new caskets, loaded on railroad flatcars, transferred to barges, unloaded at a port, stacked and reidentified at a warehouse, and loaded on a ship. Reel 2, Ambassador Hugh C. Wallace and others place wreaths on graves in the Suresnes cemetery in France.

136th Field Artillery units use scissors binoculars as range finders, and load and fire 155-mm guns from Atton, France, into Germany. The 351st F.A. hauls guns into position at Maidieres. The 350th F.A. fires 155's at Dieulouard. 317th Engrs. repair roads at Ferme-de-Ponce. 58th F.A. units pull an auto from a ditch with a derrick at Bruley. Staff cars are washed at Millery by Negro troops.

Reel 1, draftees are examined, inoculated, issued clothing, and taught to salute. Shows Gen. Glenn and other divisional officers. Reel 2, soldiers box and play baseball and football. Supplies are unloaded from trucks and from the camp railroad train. Bakers mix dough and bake bread. Beeves are inspected at a cold-storage plant and trucks loaded with meat. Troops at Camp Upton, N.Y., stage a mock battle, including a gas attack. Officers demonstrate how to test a gas mask. Electric sirens and rachets warn troops as gas bombs explode near trenches. Bottled gas is blown over the field; cavalry units don masks and spread masks over the muzzles of their horses. Troops beat gas from the trenches after an attack.

Manufacture of Gas Masks, 1918
Peach pits are burned in furnaces and charcoal extracted and placed in drums. Rubberized fabric is marked and cut. Rubber-rimmed eyepieces are cemented in place. Nose clamps, head straps, mouthpieces, and breathing tubes are attached to the face pieces of the mask. Charcoal and cotton wads are placed in canisters and the canisters soldered and tested. The completed masks are tested.

Reel 1, prisoners are shaved, operate a printing press, work at brick kilns, blast rock in a quarry, apply crushed rock to a road bed, saw logs, plow, bale hay, cut corn, and fill silos. Reel 2, prisoners work on truck farms, tend livestock, build dairy barns, tend chickens, and construct barracks. Men are counted as they return to prison. Prisoners eat, are examined, exercise, and are interviewed.
