'We need Lula': Brazilians celebrate leftist leader's narrow victory
Brazil’s former leftist president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has sealed an astonishing political comeback, beating the far-right incumbent, Jair Bolsonaro, in one of the most significant and bruising elections in the country’s history.

With 99.97% of votes counted, Silva, a former factory worker who became Brazil’s first working-class president exactly 20 years ago, had secured 50.9% of the vote. Bolsonaro, a firebrand who was elected in 2018, received 49.10%.
Addressing journalists at a hotel in São Paulo, Lula vowed to reunify the country after a toxic race for power that has profoundly divided one of the world’s largest democracies.

Brazil election: Bolsonaro avoids conceding to Lula, but transition to begin
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro sidestepped conceding to president-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who he lost to in Sunday's runoff election, but said he respected the constitution though did not mention a government transition to Lula.
"As long as I am president of the Republic and citizen, I will keep following all our Constitution's mandates. It's an honour being the leader of millions of Brazilians," he said on Tuesday, more than 44 hours after the election.
Gleisi Hoffmann, president of the Workers Party of which Lula is a founding member, said that Brazil "needs normality" and that the political transition needed to occur normally because "that's how a democracy is."
Despite Bolsonaro's comments, however, supporters of the outgoing president clashed with police Tuesday after setting up roadblocks and blockades that have paralyzed the country. Some supporters said there was no end date to their protests.

Brazil have name their squad for the 2022 World Cup and naturally, whatever the result was, there was going to be plenty of debate on the matter.
Coach Tite has elected to pack out his squad with impressive and skilful forwards, headlined by Neymar Junior. From La Liga, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo Goes and Raphinha all made the cut, but Matheus Cunha of Atletico Madrid did not.
However speaking after the announcement, Ronaldo Nazario, who knows a thing or two about World Cups, named a surprise choice he would have taken if he was in charge. Perhaps he sees something of himself in the wonderkid.
“If I had to choose one to be part of the call, with few options to really act, I would choose Endrick. It would be a sensational experience for him. For the future of the Brazilian team.”
The Palmeiras forward only made his first professional start in the last week and turned 16 in the summer, but Ronaldo felt he was ready. It should be noted that Ronaldo himself went to the 1994 World Cup at the age of 17 and did not play in the USA.

Supporters of Brazil’s Bolsonaro call on military after election loss, Lula backers celebrate win
Protesters supporting President Jair Bolsonaro took to the streets of Brazil on Sunday to demand an armed forces intervention and reject the electoral victory of president-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
Protesters waving Brazil's yellow-and-green flags, and chanting slogans such as "S.O.S armed forces" marched in the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia a week after the presidential election results were declared.
Meanwhile, near Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, supporters of President-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva celebrated the victory of the leftist leader.
Bolsonaro, a right-wing nationalist, lost the election and has not conceded defeat but has stopped short of contesting the election result, and has authorized his chief of staff to begin the transition process with Lula's representatives.

The Guardian spent the weekend with different groups of supporters in São Paulo to understand the reasons behind their demands.
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won what was widely seen as Brazil’s most important election in decades by a margin of 2.1m votes – 50.9% to 49.1% – and has been quickly embraced by the international community after four years in which Brazil became a pariah under Bolsonaro.
