Miley Cyrus Screams “I Just Won My First Grammy” During “Flowers” Performance
Miley Cyrus had an unplanned shout-out to make during her 2024 Grammys performance Sunday night.
While performing “Flowers” during the awards show, Cyrus — who had taken the stage moments earlier when winning her first-ever Grammy for best pop solo performance — screamed out amid the lyrics, “I just won my first Grammy!”
The singer, sporting a silver sequence dress onstage, decided to forgo backup dancers and show off her own choreography while singing the hit track.
Also mid-song, Cyrus called out the audience for not singing along with her, saying, “Why you acting like you don’t know this song?” — which is a great question, given that the song went viral on social media following its release in January 2023.

Sports Illustrated' to lay off most of its staff amid severed licensing deal
The publisher of Sports Illustrated is planning to lay off most — and possibly all — of its journalists on staff, after failing to pay its licensing fees to the magazine's parent company.
Authentic Brands Group, the magazine's owner, said in a statement that it ended its licensing agreement with The Arena Group, the magazine's publisher, to publish Sports Illustrated, but that it remained committed to the 70-year-old magazine's continued publication.
"We are confident that going forward the brand will continue to evolve and grow in a way that serves sports news readers, sports fans, and consumers," it added in the statement.
Authentic said it terminated the deal on Thursday "as a result of the company's failure to pay its quarterly license fee despite being given a notice of breach and an opportunity to cure the breach."
The Arena Group said in a statement that despite its revoked publishing license, it is in talks with Authentic and will continue to produce Sports Illustrated "until this is resolved."

'Sports Illustrated' is accused of posting articles by writers created by AI
The union that represents 82 Sports Illustrated employees, or about 80% of the magazine's staff, said in a statement on Friday that all its union-represented staff members were at risk of being laid off.
"This is another difficult day in what has been a difficult four years for Sports Illustrated under Arena Group (previously The Maven) stewardship," the union said in a statement.

Bankrupt and loving it: Welcome to the lucrative world of undead brands
The layoff news comes a day after publisher The Arena Group announced a "significant reduction" of its 100-member workforce, citing "substantial debt" and missed payments.
Front Office Sports, which first reported news of the mass layoffs, said the company recently missed a $2.8 million payment to Authentic.
Sports Illustrated grabbed headlines in November when reports surfaced with accusations that it had published stories generated through artificial intelligence under the names and photos of fake journalists.
It's the latest major journalism publication to face staff cuts, falling on the same day that employees at the Los Angeles Times are staging a walkout in protest of planned layoffs. Earlier this week, Condé Nast announced that it's cutting staff at Pitchfork as part of a restructuring that will roll the music website into GQ magazine.

BREAKING: Supreme Court won't immediately settle Trump immunity claim
The Supreme Court said Friday it will not immediately take up a plea by special counsel Jack Smith to rule on whether former President Donald Trump can be prosecuted for his actions to overturn the 2020 election results.
The ruling is a win for Trump and his lawyers, who have sought repeatedly to delay this and other criminal cases against him as he seeks to reclaim the White House in 2024. It averts a swift ruling from the nation's highest court that could have definitively turned aside his claims of immunity and pushed the case toward a trial scheduled to start on March 4.

City held by Liverpool in top-of-the-table encounter
Since joining Manchester City in June 2022, Erling Haaland has scored goals and broken records and, on Saturday against Liverpool, the striker continued to make his mark on history by scoring his 50th league goal for the reigning Premier League champion.
No player in Premier League history has reached half a century of goals quicker – Haaland doing so in 48 games. The previous record holder Andrew Cole, who played for Manchester United and Newcastle United, took 65 games to reach the mark.
Haaland scored in the 27th minute to give host City a lead it only relinquished in the 80th minute when Trent Alexander-Arnold leveled for Liverpool.
“We played really well, excellent performance,” City manager Pep Guardiola told BBC Sport. “I don’t have anything to complain or regret about how proud I am of the team.”
Haaland found space between Liverpool’s center-backs and beat goalkeeper Allison Becker with a lasered effort into the bottom-right of the goal when Liverpool was in the ascendancy.
The game failed to match previous high-caliber encounters between the two dominant teams of the era as neither was at its best.
City thought it had doubled its advantage when Rúben Dias found the net only for the goal to be ruled out for a goalline foul on Alisson by Manuel Akanji.
With 10 minutes remaining, right-back Alexander-Arnold drilled an effort into the far corner after being put into space by Mohamed Salah to earn Liverpool a hard-earned point.
“This is a callous place to come and it is not a coincidence they have won I don’t know how many in a row at home. They are a super team,” Klopp told BBC Sport.
“Can we play better? Definitely and we will … It is a good point for us and I am absolutely fine.”
The result ended City’s perfect record at home in 2023, a run that stretched to 23 games, and allowed Arsenal to leapfrog both teams in the table after the Gunners beat Brentford later in the day.

Today’s Starting XI has an average age of 24 years, 217 days. It’s the youngest lineup the USMNT has put out in 12 matches against Germany.
The lineup also averages 30 caps.
Midfielder Gio Reyna makes his first USMNT appearance since suffering a broken bone in the Concacaf Nations League Final against Canada on June 18.
Midfielder Yunus Musah (20 years, 319 days) becomes only the fourth USMNT player to earn 30 caps before his 21st birthday. He is the third youngest player to achieve the feat, beating Landon Donovan (20 years, 320 days) by one day.
USMNT Players to Reach 30 Caps Before 21st Birthday
Player Age Date of 30th Cap
Jozy Altidore 20 years, 277 days Aug. 10, 2010 vs. Brazil
Christian Pulisic 20 years, 288 days July 3, 2019, vs. Jamaica
Yunus Musah 20 years, 319 days Oct. 14, 2023 vs. Germany

Nine of the Starting XI are age 25 and younger: Weston McKennie and Christian Pulisic (25), Chris Richards and Tim Weah (23); Folarin Balogun and Sergiño Dest (22); Yunus Musah, Joe Scally and Gio Reyna (20).
Having just celebrated his 36th birthday on Oct. 5, Tim Ream becomes the 10th field player to earn a USMNT cap after age 36. The last time a field player 36 or older appeared for the USMNT came on Sept. 5, 2001, at Costa Rica in World Cup qualifying when 38-year-old Preki Radosavljevic came off the bench in the 71st minute. The last time a field player 36 or older started for the USMNT came in 37-year-old Thomas Dooley’s send-off match on Feb. 21, 1999, vs. Chile.
Ream is also just the fourth modern-era (1990-present) field player to earn a USMNT cap after hitting age 36, following Fernando Clavijo (31 caps), Dooley (15 caps) and Preki (2 caps).
Christian Pulisic captains the USMNT for the 18th time tonight. The team is 13-1-3 when Pulisic wears the armband, with the only loss coming in the 1-0 defeat to Italy on Nov. 20, 2018, in his first match as captain.

Landon Donovan 115 57 / 58 157
Clint Dempsey 76 57 / 19 141
Jozy Altidore 56 42 / 14 115

Goalkeeper Matt Turner makes his team-leading 10th appearance of 2023. Turner has appeared in 15 of the 17 USMNT matches during FIFA windows since last September and has collected 21 shutouts and a 21-4-8 record in 33 career appearances.
Striker Folarin Balogun starts his fifth consecutive match for the USMNT.
Balogun and Scally make their first international appearances against UEFA opposition, while veterans Tim Ream and Weston McKennie each make their 10th appearance against a European national team.
Tim Ream and Chris Richards partner in central defense for the second time tonight, having previously paired in last month’s 3-0 win against Uzbekistan in St. Louis.
Five starters have ties to the German Bundesliga. Gio Reyna (Borussia Dortmund) and Joe Scally (Borussia Mönchengbadlbach) currently play in the German top flight. At the same time, Weston McKennie (Schalke), Christian Pulisic (Borussia Dortmund), and Chris Richards (Hoffenheim, Bayern Munich) have previously spent time in Germany.
Four starters have scored goals against European opposition. Weston McKennie scored 21 minutes into his international debut in the 1-1 draw against Portugal on Nov. 14, 2017, Gio Reyna and Christian Pulisic scored in the 2-1 win at Northern Ireland on March 28, 2021, and Tim Weah registered the opening goal in the USA’s 1-1 draw against Wales on Nov. 21, 2022, at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Should he come off the bench today, German-born midfield Lenny Maloney would become the third player in USMNT history to debut against the country of his birth, following Terry Springthorpe (June 8, 1953, vs. England) and Jerry Panek (August 3, 1973, vs. Poland).
A potential Maloney first cap would also mark the 60th debut under Gregg Berhalter, tying him with Bob Bradley for the second most debuts among USMNT head coaches.

Bob Bradley 60 80
Gregg Berhalter 59 62

Should he come off the bench today, Cameron Carter-Vickers would earn his first USMNT appearance since his strong performance against IR Iran in the World Cup group stage finale on Nov. 29, 2022.
With his next goal or assist, Pulisic (40 G+A; 26 goals, 14 assists) will be in possession of fifth on the USMNT’s all-time goal contributions leaderboard.
Gregg Berhalter has a 39-11-12 record in 62 matches as USMNT head coach and holds both the highest winning percentage (.726) and highest unbeaten percentage (.823) of any manager who has coached eight or more matches.
Berhalter is also 2-2-3 against opposition from UEFA.
Six starters are products of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, with five having come through MLS Academies: Weston McKennie and Chris Richards (FC Dallas), Gio Reyna and Joe Scally (New York City FC), Tim Weah (New York Red Bulls), and Christian Pulisic (PA Classics).
The USMNT is 4-7-0 in 11 all-time matches against Germany. Today’s match is the first meeting since the USA’s 2-1 win on June 10, 2015 in Cologne.
Six substitutions are allowed in three different moments. Halftime does not count as a substitution moment.
Fernando Guerrero of Mexico is the referee for today’s match. The USA is 0-1-1 in matches officiated by Guerrero. He’s overseen the 1-1 draw with Panama in the Gold Cup group stage on July 8, 2017, in Nashville, Tenn., and the 2-0 defeat to Brazil in a friendly on Sept. 7, 2018, in East Rutherford, N.J.

A rare “ring of fire” eclipse is happening Saturday
On Saturday, October 14, the moon will pass directly between the Earth and the sun, casting its shadow across Earth’s surface.
Those in the path of the shadow — mainly in the Western United States, Mexico, and in Central and South America — will be able to look up and see a spectacular event: an annular “ring of fire” solar eclipse.
This weekend’s path notably passes through the Navajo Nation and lands of other Indigenous people in the Four Corners region where these celestial events have particular cultural significance. Citizens of the Navajo Nation, the Diné people, avoid going outside, looking at the eclipse, or allowing the light of the eclipse to shine on them. Some tribal lands, including all Navajo Tribal Parks and the iconic Monument Valley, will be closed to visitors on Saturday to respect cultural traditions. (For Diné readers, a content warning: We have included a photo of a previous annular eclipse below.)

Maddox exited the game in the second quarter, favoring his left arm as he went to the medical tent. After a brief examination, he went inside and was later ruled out for the night. He was replaced by Mario Goodrich, a 2022 undrafted free agent out of Clemson.
With the slot corner position relatively thin, the Eagles experimented with moving veteran All-Pro James Bradberry inside during the summer. Bradberry sat out of Thursday's game with a concussion.
Maddox, 27, has four career interceptions over five-plus seasons to go with 31 passes defensed. He has dealt with a number of injuries of late, including toe, ankle and hamstring injuries that limited him to nine games last season.
The injuries are beginning to pile up for the Eagles. Linebacker Nakobe Dean (foot) is on injured reserve. Safety Reed Blankenship (ribs) and running back Kenny Gainwell (ribs) were sidelined for the Vikings game along with Bradberry. And running back Boston Scott (head) and receiver Quez Watkins (hamstring) were both hurt against Minnesota.

Ahsoka Series-Premiere Recap: Revenge of the Sith
Ahsoka Tano has had one of the biggest character arcs in all of Star Wars, both in-universe and out of it. When she was first introduced in The Clone Wars movie, the previously unnamed Padawan of Anakin Skywalker was essentially a walking death flag. (There was no sign of her in Revenge of the Sith, which didn’t bode well for her survivability, presumably.) The fan base’s reception of this perceived filler character was skeptical at best and outright heinous at worst (a sign of things to come for other female characters in Star Wars). And yet, she became not only one of the most complex and essential characters in the franchise but one of the most beloved, to the point where she not only survived Order 66, but became an important part of Rebels and even had a voice appearance in The Rise of Skywalker prior to a live-action debut in season two of The Mandalorian.

Donald Trump pleads not guilty to classified documents charges
Former President Donald Trump has pleaded not guilty to 37 charges related to alleged mishandling of classified documents.
Trump’s lawyers asked for a jury trial during the former president’s arraignment Tuesday at a federal courthouse in Miami. “We most certainly enter a plea of not guilty,” Trump attorney Todd Blanche told the judge.
During the hearing, Trump sat hunched over with his arms crossed and a scowl on his face. He did not speak.
Trump’s aide and co-defendant, Walt Nauta, was also arrested, fingerprinted and processed. He had an initial appearance Tuesday but will not be arraigned until June 27.
