K-6962 #1
It was a nice morning for activating a park. It wasn’t roo hot. I used MFJ Short HF Mobile Ham-tenna tried 10, 17, 15, 20, 40 but only successful on 20 and 40. Check your radio settings if you are not making contacts. I called for 10 minutes before realizing I had the split function on. I made 20 contacts. Thanks to the hunters and p2p.

It was a good day yesterday but hot. It was OJ’s second activation. My 23rd for the park. OJ made the hot sun more comfortable by bringing her canopy. We really enjoyed the contact with 6 youths from the 4H camp in Pennsylvania from K3PMC and KC3EVL. I noticed some youth are shy about getting on but others are a little more engaged. Thanks for the hunters and p2p.

Activating K-3891 Parks on the air
K-3891 SC Campbells Crossroads and Angelus Tracts Wildlife Management Area
As I know my shortcomings it is easy for me to get instructions wrong and get lost. This was no exception but I did find the park. The instructions say Turn left onto SC109 and proceed 0.4 miles but it left you with choices left or right without signs I chose left but I turned around checked google earth and found the facility and a church I could use as a land mark. I made 36 contacts using the MFJ Short HF Mobile Ham-tenna. I do not want to get in the habit of using just this set up but with the grey clouds and rain in the forecast I chose this today. I know I get better signals with the Endfed. Thanks for all the contacts and p2p.

Activating 3 Parks in 1 day
I picked out five new parks to activate while I was staying at my friends house in Virginia
Yesterday I did accomplish activating 3 of them.
K-4987 Lake Curtis State Fishing Lake 36 contacts
K-3975 C.F. Phelps Wildlife Management Area 10 contacts
K-0717 Fredericksburg and Spotslvania National Military Park 12 contacts
I used MFJ Short HF Mobile Ham-tenna mounted on the car. It was challenge for me since I was totally unfamiliar with the area but technology was helpful but the third park the name on the sign was different from the POTA name but I was able to verify the correct park by a sign at the park. I failed to take a photo of the sign displayed at the parking area. The cool temperatures made working from the car more tolerable.
I was trying for 5 but finding K-4983 Lake Orange got to be a challenge and decided to head home after not finding the park.
I appreciate all the hunters and p2p and the multiple park and band hunters. W4JE, N4AWP, and N4UHH. I hope I didn’t leave anyone out
The following parks will have to wait.
K-4983 Lake Orange Fishing Lake
K-7640 Oakley Forest Wildlife Management Area

Be sure to watch the movie. There is a museum nearby K-3854 in Wendell that you will want to visit. The Wendell Museum. Research was done to find the first licensed amateur radio operator in Wendell. A QSL card from a resident was donated to the museum and placed on the museums timeline. https://wendellhistoricalsociety.com/museum/

How I Achieved the POTA Rover Award
This is an award from Parks on the Air organization that recognizes a amateur radio operator basically activating 5 parks in one day. Awards are located https://parksontheair.com/pota-awards/. The Rules for POTA are at https://docs.pota.app/ I chose to activated parks near where I live.
K-6934 Pee Dee River State Game Land
K-0416 Pee Dee National Wildlife Refuge
K-6854 Town Creek Indian Mound State Historic Site
K-8010 McKinney Lake State Fish Hatchery
K-6947 Sandhills State Game Land
I had activated all the parks before except for K-0416. Activated means that you contacted at least 10 qualified amateur operators.

The forecast called for rain today but they missed the mark. I forgot my notebook and my iPad but I had a mini log and I made the most of it. 23 contacts including W1AW/4. One station AD7LX was 2 1/2 watts from WI. It was hard writing the log in the small space so I’ll put a spare notebook in the car for emergencies. I tried to work the park around the corner K-6947 but they didn’t hear me (on 20) I could just barely hear him. I was there yesterday. Thanks to all the hunters and p2p. Sorry no CW today.de n4mqu

Amateur Radio POTA K-6947 #6
Great day for an activation. Had trouble getting 40 to tune but after the activation I played around with the antenna and found the bushes were making the SWR higher. Moved it away from bushes and it was good on 20 and 40 but I was ready to go by that time. Thanks to the 3 CW contacts N4AWP, K9IS, WS4S. I had no idea what I was doing (not really) but two of the contacts confirmed on LOTW and N4AWP confirmed on the telephone. I think I am getting more comfortable.
