Thousands rally in Spain to demand pay hikes amid high inflation
Thousands of workers rallied in Madrid on Thursday in a protest called by Spain's labor unions to demand higher wages to combat the higher prices driven up by global inflation on November 3. Members of the UGT and CCOO unions, Spain's two major unions, marched behind the sign "Salary or Conflict" through the capital. They want the government and business leaders to agree to raise the minimum salary above the current 1,000 euros a month to handle rampant inflation that has only recently started to descend. Like other countries, Spain has seen an increase in prices driven by rising fuel costs due to supply reductions.

Sheep take over Madrid's streets as they head for winter pastures
Sheep replaced cars on the streets of Madrid on Sunday, as shepherds led their flocks through the centre of the Spanish capital following ancient herding routes. The annual event, which started in 1994, allows shepherds to use traditional routes to herd their livestock from northern Spain to more southerly pastures for winter grazing.
Locals and tourists alike lined the route and watched as thousands of sheep were herded through the city, with bells around their necks as part of a centuries-old tradition passed on by Spanish farmers.
Just a few centuries ago, the route would have taken them through quiet countryside, but today it has them traverse some of the busiest streets of the city. Many onlookers were surprised by the unexpected sight in a city usually thronged with traffic.
"I've never seen anything like it. It was a great way to learn about Spanish history and Spanish culture," said 22-year-old English teacher Maria Kouriaalis, who has been living in Madrid for a month
