PRIDEPOX: 95% of monkeypox cases have been transmitted through sexual activity, 41 percent had HIV, according to the largest study to date published in the New England Journal of Medicine, which also noted new clinical signs such as single genital lesions."Our work suggests that most transmissions so far have been related to sexual activity -- mainly, but not exclusively, amongst men who have sex with men."

The WHO declared Monkeypox a global emergency last week. Almost a fifth of global cases are linked to the United States.

Major cities, like New York, are seeing thousands of monkeypox cases.

A man who recently recovered from monkeypox described the symptoms that were "excruciating at times." Demand for the monkeypox vaccine is rising as cases surge. Tanya Rivero reports.

New York has now reported over 1,100 monkeypox cases in the state and a majority are in the city.

Some health workers are still using fax machines to report monkeypox cases in states like Florida and Missouri.

Health experts believe that the numbers may even be higher.

New York City health commissioner Dr. Ashwin Vasan joined PIX11 on Wednesday to provide updates on the battles against both monkeypox and COVID-19.

The CDC said there are nearly 3,900 confirmed cases in the United States, up from 2,900 at the end of last week.
