Cost of asylum-related housing and payments could cost up to £850 million
Our new paper estimates that current public spending on housing and payments for asylum claimants stands at £744 million per year (accounting for a majority of the total £1.3 billion in taxpayer money that is presently spent on asylum each year) - and has risen by a whopping £500 million since 2018.
Yet should the total number of people accommodated hit 80,000 (as the government projects may occur) - 16,000 more than now - the cost could be set to hit £850 million by Spring 2022.
Our Chairman, Alp Mehmet, spoke about the findings with TalkRADIO's James Max.
