Two of the four Americans who were held captive and survived a kidnapping in Mexico last week were taken back into the U.S. shortly before noon on Tuesday amid a heavily armed convoy of Mexican military Humvees and National Guard trucks with mounted machine guns.

The department didn't name them, but the mother of LaTavia Washington McGee confirmed she is at a Texas hospital and the wife of Eric James Williams said he was shot in the leg.

Jennifer McClellan ’97 Wins Historic Election to Congress
A University of Virginia School of Law alumna has made history — again.
Jennifer McClellan ’97 was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday in a special election, making her the first Black woman to represent Virginia in Congress.
McClellan announced her intention to run for the 4th District on Dec. 13 following the death of Rep. A. Donald McEachin, a 1986 alumnus who had held the seat since 2017. She was expected to win the heavily Democratic district following a landslide primary win in December.
“It’s poetic justice, thinking about what not only my family has been through, but what our country has been through,” McClellan said in an interview with The Washington Post. “To be the first Black woman from Virginia, which was the birthplace of American democracy but also the birthplace of American slavery. And to be someone who … fought my entire adult life to address the lingering impact that slavery and Jim Crow has had on America and on Black communities. … To be able to do that on a national scale is an incredible honor.”

Blinken postpones his China trip after a Chinese balloon is spotted over Montana
The U.S. State Department says Secretary Antony Blinken has postponed his trip to Beijing amid concerns about a Chinese surveillance balloon flying over U.S. airspace.
The Pentagon said Thursday it had "very high confidence" that the high-altitude surveillance balloon came from China and is being used to collect information from sensitive sites.
China's foreign affairs ministry confirmed on Friday that the balloon is theirs, but called it a "civilian airship used for research, mainly meteorological purposes," that had gone off course by accident.

Ukrainians Target Pushkin in Drive Against Russian Influence
When Russia first attacked Ukraine in 2014, Vadym Pozdnyakov was among a crowd that toppled a statue of Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin in the city of Kharkiv, northeastern Ukraine.
Now, nearly a year into Russia’s full-scale invasion, he is leading a campaign with a new target: monuments to 19th-century Russian poet Aleksandr Pushkin.
Ukrainians are taking aim at the symbols of Russian cultural dominance that Moscow spread during centuries of rule over territory that now makes up much of Ukraine. In recent months, authorities have removed monuments to writers including Maksim Gorky and scientists such as Mikhail Lomonosov.

BREAKING: U.S. begins ‘extraordinary’ steps to avoid debt ceiling

Treasury Secretary Janet L. Yellen told lawmakers that officials will alter certain federal investments to preserve the nation’s credit until summer — largely through technical moves that will buy lawmakers time to pass legislation that raises or suspends the amount the government is allowed to borrow, currently capped at $31.4 trillion.

PepsiCo layoffs could indicate broader economic woes
PepsiCo is reportedly cutting hundreds of corporate jobs at its North American snacks and beverage divisions, making it the latest on a growing list of big companies to slash its workforce as inflation remains elevated and the risk of recession persists.
The layoffs, which the soda giant has not publicly confirmed, are another sign that companies across different industries are bracing for a tighter economic environment. The Wall Street Journal reported the cuts Tuesday, citing internal documents and people familiar with the matter.
Some of the nation’s largest employers in retail and technology, including Walmart, Amazon and Facebook parent Meta, have slashed thousands of positions in recent weeks. That’s on top of significant reductions in the media world, including at CNN and Gannett newspapers. (Amazon founder Jeff Bezos owns The Washington Post.)

Mauna Loa is erupting, prompting an ashfall advisory for Hawaii’s Big Island
The world’s largest active volcano, Mauna Loa, is erupting for the first time in nearly 40 years, sparking an ashfall advisory Monday for Hawaii’s Big Island and surrounding waters until 10 a.m. HT (3 p.m. ET).
Though lava is flowing down one side of the volcano, the eruption in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is not threatening communities, the US Geological Survey said midday Monday.
“All indications are that the eruption will remain in the Northeast Rift Zone,” the agency said in an advisory, referring to an area where a volcano is splitting, allowing for lava flow. “Volcanic gas and possibly fine ash and Pele’s Hair (strands of lava glass) may be carried downwind.”
A “trace to less than one quarter inch” of ashfall could accumulate on parts of the island, the National Weather Service in Honolulu said.

We Still Don't Know Anything About the Tesla Semi
Tesla has finally delivered an actual real-life Semi to a customer, but there’s just one problem. And no, it isn’t the fact that it’s three years late. We still do not know shit about it. Despite the fact that CEO Elon Musk unveiled the first production Semi to PepsiCo on Thursday, he didn’t offer up any additional details on things like the truck’s price, how many Tesla would produce, how much it weighed, the Autopilot technology on board, or how much cargo it can haul.
Instead, it would seem that Musk just offered up lame platitudes about the truck. Reuters reports that the CEO said the Semi would reduce highway emissions and outperform existing diesel trucks on both power and safety. He added that the fast-charging tech found in the Semi would make its way into the Cybertruck… whenever that gets made.

Fox News Digital traveled to a Warnock campaign rally in Conyers, Georgia, on Monday and spoke with a number of attendees who praised the job they said he'd been doing representing them in the Senate, and even included him in the list of big-name Democrats they'd like to see eventually take up residence in the White House.
"If Joe Biden want[s] to run, we can give him a shot to run… but as a real progressive I want to see Warnock to run in 2028," Flavien Shirandi told Fox.
