Erdogan had accused Sweden and its neighbour Finland of harbouring Kurdish rebel groups that are outlawed in Turkey. The Swedish PM said he understood Turkey’s fight against “terrorism” and promised to respond to its requests. Sweden and Finland applied to join the Western military alliance after Russia launched its war in Ukraine. Turkey was the only one of NATO's 30 member states to block their bids initially.
