The relationship red flags seem to be endless these days. And that’s good because it’s important to know what (and who) to avoid. But it’s also useful to know what some of the good things are in a relationship. Otherwise, we may end up breaking up with someone because they like different pizza toppings or don’t like sushi. And that’s dumb. Seriously. So dumb. But you’re not dumb! That’s why you’re here after all. Right? Guys? *sound of footsteps and door shutting* Oh man. Not again!

When we were children, we did not have as much power over our relationships compared to the power we have now as adults. If we had an abusive childhood, the time we spent alone, or in other words, the time we spent not being around people who mistreated us, was the only time we felt safe. That association between seclusion and safety is very hard to break when we grow up. Once we have some clarity as to why we choose seclusion as adults, we can begin to make healthier choices in our lives. We can begin to choose to spend time with other people who will not punish us for expressing ourselves. We can see that good people do, in fact, exist. We can learn to differentiate between the good from the bad. Thank you for watching.
