PCOS Quick Facts
In women with PCOS, insulin resistance is thought to play a key role in the development of the condition. Insulin resistance can cause the ovaries to produce more androgens, which are male hormones that can interfere with ovulation and lead to other PCOS symptoms like irregular periods and acne. High insulin levels can also lead to increased production of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), which can stimulate the ovaries to produce more androgens.

Chronic Inflammation and its impact on lymph flow
As you can see the slide on the right has inflammatory cells. Notice how the lymphatics are inhibited from contracting. Sometimes, we need to address the underlying inflammation first before intervening with MLD.

Lymphatic alterations from RA
Rheumatoid Arthritis if left unchecked can cause major tissue and joint destruction.
Ongoing stress to the lymphatics results in a break down and the lymph node is no longer able to efficiently drain the fluid from the inflamed synovial joint. The lymphatic vessels become leaky and their contractile ability is diminished. The resulting impairment in lymphatic drainage contributes to increased joint inflammation
Impaired lymphatics can result in:
poor immune function, susceptibility to infections, and impaired wound healing.
While there are amazing things we can do nutritionally to diminish the inflammatory responses, it is also advised to work with your PCP for additional interventions. The outcome of RA if not managed could lead to poor health outcomes and mortality.
