Lanterns and torches are for another reason to announce the month.
The sighting of the crescent moon was announced with ram horns and trumpets audibly and visually with a fire signal at the beginning of the month. The fire signals the new month over Jerusalem, and signal fires would flare up to follow from hilltop to hilltop. The moon dangles like a necklace crescent jewel in the dusk of the night (Judges 8:21.26 and Isaiah 3:18).
To know the calendar cycle as complex as it was in ancient times, one must do the obvious: ' keep watch' of the heavens for time. Those in charge would call out the new month and count the days to the prescribed spring and autumn feasts and festivals. In Christ’s time, the temple court, including the high priest, was responsible for keeping watch.
That slither of the moon uncovered through an opening of a cloudy night before an announcement is signalled throughout the land of a crescent moon. To call the new month valid, the moon must be seen by credible witnesses, not by one whose background was a dice player or one who flies pigeons. Only then will signals flare up, starting from Mount of Olives, which overlooks the city.
Now, the inhabitants of Jerusalem would be quite aware of the preparations for a coming feast. The calendar mirroring the moon and sun’s monthly and yearly journeys was important. All announcements of the new month were important to shepherds of animals as it was also for the harvester to sow and reap. The moon announced the month when the sun would call out the seasons. This method was replaced later by dispatching messengers to carry the news. The Hebrews' enemies would also light fires to confuse and deceive their all-important civil and sacred calendar.
This thin crescent of light on the western horizon will display its horns just after the moon passes the sun's disk. Astronomically, an actual new moon can not be seen until a day has lapsed for it to show itself. The moon's horns tilt from side to side from the summer to winter months of the year. The Hebrews sense a holy obligation to keep in tune with the Lord of time. Michael Toms.

An OMEN! Part 3. Solar eclipses 2017 -2024 Jackson County, Southern Illinois
Parts one and two tell the story of two magnificent solar eclipses across the United States, raising the story of Egypt. The inquisitive French explored the regions of ‘Little Egypt’, Illinois, long ago. The Ancient Egyptian Religion worshipped or followed the sun for the sake of a calendar. The sun was their main god, and they called this brilliance of the sky Ra.
The French commander, Napoleon, and his army marched down the Nile River to explore Egypt. Afterwards came the linguist Jean Champollion to Egypt, affirming his insights on ancient Egyptian writing.
Back in France, he was armed with many notes on his expedition with the help of astronomer Jean Baptiste.
In the Spring of 1831 at the Academy of Science, the audience was captivated by Champollion’s lecture that eclipse cycles and solstices help date ancient astronomical events. The Egyptians were obsessed with sun worship but did not notice the eclipse’s true revelation despite many solar eclipses crisscrossing the Nile Valley.
‘Yet, no one has found a single reference to an eclipse, either the Sun or the Moon, in all ancient Egyptian history’. Bryan Brewer. Eclipse. 1991.
In the Book of Daniel’s second chapter, verses 27 and 28, he says, v27 “No wise man, enchanter, magician, or diviner can explain to the king the mystery he has asked about, v28 but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries. NIV.
The moon has an elliptical orbit, meaning there are times when the moon is furthest away from the Earth and times when it is closest to the Earth. The moon’s orbit around the Earth is tilted by 5 degrees to the ecliptic. If this was not so, then there would be an eclipse every new moon and full moon. In this case, for an eclipse to occur, the moon must intercept at or near the ascending or descending nodes. At such an alignment, the Moon will cast a shadow manifesting a solar eclipse, or the Earth will cast a shadow to view a lunar eclipse. Because the moon’s orbit is elliptical, three types of eclipses can occur: total, annular, and partial, appearing as a tiny bite of the sun’s disk.
In this part of the eclipses, findings by gifted authors explain eclipses' relation to prophetic time and the joyous dance of the sun and moon, celebrating their swirling dance that mirrors prophetic time in the books of Daniel and Revelation.

An OMEN! Part 2. Solar eclipses 2017 -2024 Jackson County, Southern Illinois
It is for the United States to come out of the darkness, too. A nation’s people polarised during the seven years between the eclipses of 2017 and 2024. For Little Egypt, Illinois, town names say one is captivated by fear and all that is a secret. That is Makanda, a similar place on the east coast of Africa caught up in fear-controlling secret societies. Pomona, the goddess of orchards, would ignore those who love her and only have time for her work. Then there is Cedar Lake, where the shadowy paths meet, in the name that means firm. This region is known for its snake migration and buzzards adored by Pharaohs.
Almost seven years apart, the August 2017 and April 2024 eclipses intersect near Carbondale, Illinois. The town Makanda. Their town slogan is 'star of Egypt', and Makanda is also a place in the Congo of Devil worshipers. Then there's the town of Pomona nearby. Pomona was an obscure Roman goddess of the woodlands similar to the Asherah pole, a sacred tree of the groves. All these places are in Jackson County, Southern Illinois. Where the paths cross marks the spot of darkness in both the spiritual and literal sense of the word as a biblical omen. The eclipse of 2024 is of the 134 Saros family and runs just over 1260 years, ending in 2510. Then, the orb's nodes repeat again, cycling for another 1260 years. A chain of occurring eclipses of the moon and sun shaking each other's hand roughly 18 years apart. They will continue this close relationship, occurring just over 70 cycles. So, the maths is 18 x 70 = 1260.
