Petit Pays - Cesária Evora 1995
They make multi-million dollar recordings today that can't begin to compare to the heart and soul of this wonderful recorded performance.
Cesária Évora (1941 – 2011), was a Cape Verdean singer-songwriter. She received a Grammy Award in 2004 for her album Voz d'Amor. Nicknamed the “Barefoot Diva” for performing without shoes.
“Here everything is wet
Watching this world outside
There's only rocky cliffs and sea
Poor country full of love
With Morna and Coladera songs
Wise country full of love
With drum circles and Funaná music
Oh, so much homesickness” Cesaria Evora - Petit Pays

Mar Azul - Cesária Evora 1991
” Please calm your waves and let me go
Please let me go see my land once more
Please let me save my Mother, oh sea
Blue sea, slowly rise your tide
Full moon, give me light on my way
so I can go to my land
Go to my little São Vicente1
and hug my love…”
