It is time...canning...milking...gardening
Harvesting produce from your own garden, but you know for the most part we haven't gotten much. However, when you have good friends or you have purchased some great stuff from the grocery store or farmers market it is important to get it preserved before you lose that great stuff. We are pressure canning beans.
It is time to start milk sharing with Bart. We have started putting the baby away at night and milking his mama in the morning.
Despite the drought and water restrictions, we are actually getting fruit on our plants, and can you believe how tall that sunflower is?

Disbudding a Baby Goat
It is one of those hard things but it is worth it in the long run to have goats that don't have horns. For our own safety and the safety of the other goats in a smaller area.
He screamed but got over it really quick. Poor little guy.

We are loving playing with little Panda. We sold our chicken coop and some chickens to our friends. We helped them get it loaded and unloaded. It is great to work with other homesteaders.

Will she take them all? Baby Chickens! A very happy hatch.
While we have been waiting for Bart to give birth we have, also, been incubating chicken eggs (because I am addicted to that) to put chicks under broody hens. We had 8 eggs in lockdown and 7 hatched. They are sooo cute!

Bart is ready! So are we!
We are really close to hatching chicks and having baby goats. We did our last candling of eggs before lockdown and everyone is looking great. Pioneer day is a Utah holiday celebrating the pioneers that came to Utah and settled here. It is fun to go to the parades and watch fireworks. Bart is very ready to have this kid and she probably feels a little crummy because she got into the chicken food.

Learning to use a Hand Pump to milk & Kidding pen pt 2
We finished mucking everything out of the goat pen. We are ready for fencing and moving Bart where she needs to be. We, also, decided to pull out our hand pump milker and try it out again. It worked! We figured it out! We are starting to look for names for our baby goats, we would love your suggestions.

Getting Squash Beetles out of the Garden & Hoof Trimming
We have started seeing the squash beetles and we need to get rid of them. So far, the only way I have found to effectively get rid of squash beetles is to water the bottom of the plant and catch them as they try not to drown. This time we are, also, checking for eggs under the leaves.
It is that time of the month again where we need to trim hooves. Now I am teaching my daughters.

Finally! We have all our plants planted! We are getting closer to kidding!
We finished planting our starts. We just had a few flowers left to plant and they are in. We are only a few weeks from Bart giving birth and we are really excited for baby goats and I am really nervous. This is my first kidding and I am hoping I do everything right. This is Bart's second freshening and I think everything will be just fine.

So hard to get hay and keep it!
Drought is a problem that much of the country is not facing. We struggle to find hay at this time of year because the hay is growing slow...no water. We found some hay and our goats have been very, very happy. I also finished my planting. YAY!

Time to clean the coops.
Homesteading is not always exciting. There are always chores that need to be done and you can only go so far without doing them. I want healthy and happy animals and that means making sure they receive a clean and fresh shelter.

Planting Pumpkins and Birthday at Clark Planetarium
My flats of plants were getting a bit droopy because they needed more water and more soil. We planted all of our Squash, Pumpkins & Cucumbers and the remaining melons that needed to be planted. They seem to be doing good. It was my son's birthday and he wanted to do planetariums. We went to the Snow College Planetarium and drove to Salt Lake for the Clark Planetarium. Good times! I, also, decided that I was done processing broilers for this year and sold all my remaining chicks to a gentleman that was going to order some. One less thing for me to worry about.
