Eighteen bodies have been found in a forested area of northern Greece, outside the village of Avantas, hit by wildfires for the past four days, the Greek fire service has said. India has made history as its Moon mission becomes the first to land in the lunar south pole region. With this, India joins an elite club of countries to achieve a soft landing on the Moon, after the US, the former Soviet Union and China. The Vikram lander from Chandrayaan-3 successfully touched down as planned at 18:04 local time (12:34 GMT). Celebrations have broken out across the country, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying "India is now on the Moon".

Hawaii is facing the "largest natural disaster" in its history, after wildfires ripped through the island of Maui and destroyed most of the beach-front town of Lahaina. The island has been ravaged with entire communities and neighbourhoods destroyed, as hurricane-strength winds fanned the deadly flames. The blaze ripped through Lahaina so quickly that some people jumped into the harbour to escape the flames and smoke.

A British nurse, Lucy Letby, has been found guilty of murdering seven babies at a hospital neonatal unit, making her the UK's most prolific child serial killer of modern times. The 33-year-old was also convicted of trying to kill six other infants at the Countess of Chester Hospital in England between June 2015 and June 2016. Letby injected babies with air, force fed others milk and poisoned two of the infants with insulin. The nurse continued to work at the neonatal unit despite repeated concerns reported to managers by senior doctors at the hospital. The UK government has announced a public inquiry into the deaths.

Property giant Evergrande has filed for bankruptcy protection in the US as the real estate crisis in China deepens. It will allow the heavily-indebted company to protect its assets in the US as it works on a multi-billion dollar deal with creditors. Evergrande defaulted on its huge debts in 2021, which sent shockwaves through global financial markets. The group's real estate unit has more than 1,300 projects in more than 280 Chinese cities, according to its website.

Russia's unmanned Luna-25 spacecraft has crashed into the Moon after spinning out of control. It was Russia's first Moon mission in almost 50 years. The craft was designed to be the first ever to land on the Moon's south pole, but failed after encountering problems as it moved into its pre-landing orbit. It was set to explore a part of the Moon which scientists think could hold frozen water and precious elements. Roscosmos, Russia's state space corporation, announced that it had lost contact with the Luna-25 and believed the craft had "ceased to exist as a result of a collision with the surface of the Moon”. The loss of Luna-25 is a blow to Roscosmos. Russia's civilian space programme has been in decline for several years, as state funding is increasingly directed towards the military.

The UK government has said the RAF has intercepted two long-range Russian bombers north of the Shetland Islands. An RAF Voyager Tanker Transport was also dispatched for fuel support to help the RAF Typhoons operate within Nato's northern air policing area.

The lawyers of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan are challenging the decision to jail the former leader over the weekend. Mr Khan is currently in prison, sentenced to three years for not declaring money gained by selling state gifts while he was in office, something the former prime minister denies. The current ruling means Mr Khan will be disqualified from standing in upcoming elections. One of his lawyers said the manner of his arrest and delivery of the verdict on Saturday was "shocking" and that Mr Khan has not been given the right of a fair trial.
