Jared Meyer | The Right to Home Share in Hawaii
The Right to Couch Surf: Home-sharing in Hawaii
This event was held Friday, May 26, 2017 in downtown Honolulu
The event featured Jared Meyer, Senior Research Fellow at the Foundation for Government Accountability
It's easier than ever before to rent space in your house, but a movement to crack down on home-sharing may threaten this new and evolving industry.
Meyer says that Hawaii's high rents are mostly the cause of government, not home-sharing platforms like Airbnb. He says that government restrictions on affordable housing, rentals, or even owning a home, have made it difficult for working class families to afford rent.
Does home-sharing have negative impacts on the community...or could companies like Airbnb give local families another chance to make the money they need to afford to live in Hawaii?
