The media company said the cedi’s poor performance against the dollar was the worst among 148 currencies tracked by it. With the development, the cedi has switched positions with the Sri Lankan rupee, which is now the second worst performer with a 44.7 percent drop to the greenback this year. In July, Ghana started engaging with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout programme to restore macroeconomic stability. The economic woes and spiraling inflation in the West African country had forced hundreds of citizens to take to the streets to demonstrate against price hikes, a tax on electronic payments, and other levies.

Hargreaves Lansdown’s chief executive will quit after six years leading the UK’s largest investment platform, as the company seeks to deliver on ambitious plans for teach-in led growth. Chris Hill, who has steered the FTSE 100 group since 2017, on Monday said he would step down by November next year, giving the board time to find a replacement. The move comes after Hill in February outlined a five-year strategy to invest £175mn in upgrading the investment platform’s systems and building a techled financial advice service, funded in part by cutting dividends. Shares fell on the day of the announcement and are down 45 per cent over the past 12 months.
