My first attempt at using Claude to generate patches to change code files instead of just regenerating part or all of a file and manually stitching it together. This was recorded on Twitch (live stream) and is not edited.

FTR I do not condone using this to bypass paywalls to read private content. I am only doing this as an exercise in understanding how Claude responds to the request and its accuracy.

Vim has a line editor, so I wired up my ask OpenAI helpers to read the command line as if it were a question, get back a response and insert it as if I had typed it... to lookup commands that I can't recall.

Linters and formatters are only useful if you can easily use their feedback to fix problems with code. Real problems, not imaginary issues because someone is pedantic about the "right way" to write code. Therefore it makes no sense to use these tools if you can't immediately use the feedback to make changes to the code... use them at code type-time (in your IDE) and not at commit-time and definitely not at CI-time.

iTerm Triggers can be used to transform command output. For example, to turn plain text into clickable links, i.e. in the case of a git repo (org/repo). This is but one of a handful of actions you can apply when text patterns are detected.

When you don't know what repo to look in, it's helpful to be able to search across all of github. And the gh CLI makes that easy with a simple search interface that looks much like you would get out of grep or ag commands.

For years I was apprehensive about using the git command for committing changes until I discovered the `--patch` flag for `git add` and `git restore`... now I won't use anything else.

Today I'm setting up a new streamdeck profile for Final Cut Pro. And the first set of buttons involve activating menu items which cannot be done directly in StreamDeck's configuration (AFAIK there isn't even a third party plugin to activate menu items). NBD, Keyboard Maestro can handle menu items. So, I show how to set all of that up to create retiming buttons for altering clip speeds in FCPX.

Beyond simple buttons to open files and folders, you should be using Keyboard Maestro to run complex actions that are triggered by StreamDeck buttons. Think of StreamDeck as an interface to design buttons that trigger external actions.

If you need to find periods of silence in a video, ffmpeg has a silencedetect filter to spit out ranges (start/end/duration). This is one of the easier filters to use so if you haven't used ffmpeg yet, try it out.

I hate digging/clicking through app menus. Instead I use a program called Paletro to create a command plaette to search through menu entries and it works in every application. I also cover setting up a keyboard shortcut to invoke the Help menu's search text box for the apps that support that.

I find myself frequently toggling suggestions on/off. i.e. I do not like suggestions when I am practicing/learning. When writing code I don't care much about I always want suggestions to speed it up. Now I can hit a button to toggle suggestions on/off.
