The International Committee of the Red Cross and the Japanese Red Cross were the first to provide humanitarian supplies on the ground in this manner. The world now requires the assurance of a future free of nuclear weapons, and this assurance is one step closer to becoming a reality with the approval of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in 2017.
