The death toll in the devastating flooding that hit eastern Kentucky is continuing to rise as more rain threatens the region, according to officials.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear says the disaster's death toll continues a grim rise, and that many people are still unaccounted for. In addition to the loss of human life, local officials say that in Perry County alone, flood waters wiped out dozens of bridges, and cut off water and power to many.

Dozens of people are still unaccounted for, according to a daily briefing from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

At least 26 people have been confirmed dead as of Sunday as the search and rescue operation continues.

The governor also said more than $1.1 million has been donated to the Team Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief Fund.

Tonight, eastern Kentucky was hit again with up to three more inches of rain. Isolated flood threats have plagued the region, which is still recovering from the devastating floods. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear visited the disaster zone. The governor says more than 600 people have been rescued by air alone since the flood began. So far, 28 Kentuckians have died. 70 trailers bought during December’s destructive tornadoes were moved to the flood zone to house the displaced.

As devastated towns across Kentucky brace for more rain and likely more flooding, local Red Cross volunteers from the Delaware Valley are on the ground, trying to help communities.

1400 people have been rescued so far.
