Jesus Buried
Why do Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of God, the Messiah? Many people who aren't followers think, "Well, it's just blind faith." We disagree. Our faith is based on the scriptures and historic events. In a couple weeks, we'll be talking about the major event that happened that causes most people to say that's why they believe that Jesus is the Son of God. However, the scriptures told us ahead of time when Jesus would appear. They told us how we would teach and how we would be rejected by His people. It also foretold that He would be crucified in the manner of that death. It also talked about His burial. Most times people don't look at that. But the scriptures foretold the way that Jesus' body would be handled and the condition of that body and how He would be buried. They were done according to the scriptures. So we have faith based upon events that happened according to the scriptures. See how His condition of the body and His burial comported with the scriptures.

Authority and Greater Sin
From the time that Jesus was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane, the people who arrested him bound him and led him to Annas' house. They were seeking to assert control and authority over Jesus. It's interesting, trying to assert control and authority over the Son of God.
When Jesus fails to immediately answer one of Pilate's questions, Pilate says, "Don't you understand that I have authority over you?" Jesus tells him the authority that he has doesn't come from the Roman government.
John 19:1 Pilate has Jesus scourged
John 19:2 & 3 Roman soldiers abuse Jesus
John 19:4 & 5 Pilate presents Jesus saying he finds no guilt in Him
John 19:6 & 7 Pilate attempts to avoid responsibility, but the chief priests and offiers demand that Jesus be crucified and state that Jesus claimed to be the Son of God
John 19:8 – 11 Jesus refuses to answer Pilate’s questions. Pilate asserts he has authority over Jesus, but Jesus responds he only has authority because it was given by heaven. But Jeus also says those who are delivering Him have greater sin than Pilate
John 19:12 – 15 Pilate still seeks to release Jesus, but the Jews keep the pressure on by saying that if he doesn’t crucify Jesus he is no friend of Caesar and they have no king but Caesar

Pilate’s Conversation with Jesus
The religious leaders take Jesus to Pilate who is a Roman governor to authorize his crucifixion. During that time Pilate and Jesus have a conversation about his kingdom and his kingship, but during that conversation Pilate deflects by asking a question. He doesn't care really about the answer to the question because he doesn't spend any time to listen. The second thing is he asks the wrong question. Come and hear what Pilate asked and the question he should have asked.
Sermon Notes
John 18:28 - 32 Religious leaders take Jesus to Pilate to crucify without accusation
John 18:33 – 37 Pilate discusses with Jesus about being a king and the kingdom
John 18:38a What is truth?

Peter Denial
Today's message, we're going to take a look at Peter and his denial of his Lord. It would be easy, and it is easy, to quickly judge Peter for those failures. But sometimes, even though Peter had told Jesus that he'd be willing to die for him, we'll take a look at maybe sometimes it is easier to die for Christ than to live for him. But also, what we're going to take a look at is that while Peter denied Jesus, all of us have done something that we regret or are ashamed of. But the fortunate thing, just like Peter and in our lives as well, that's not the final end to the story. So let's take a look at what Peter does and what will happen.
Sermon Notes
John 18:12 & 13 Jesus is arrested, bound and taken to Annas’ house
John 18:14 John reminds us of Caiaphas was the one who said that “it is expedient that one man die on behalf of the people”
John 18:15 & 16 Peter and another disciple follow Jesus to Anna’s house and the other disciple helps Peter to enter
John 18:17 Peter’s first denial
John 18:18 Peter and others warm themselves by a charcoal fire
John 18:19 – 21 Jesus questioned about His teachings and His disciples
John 18:22 Jesus struck
John 18:23 Jesus responds to being struck
John 18:24 Jesus sent bound to Caiaphas, the High Priest
John 18:25 – 27 Peter denies being a disciple for the second and third time and immediately a rooster crowed

Jesus Betrayed
There are times in our lives when we may face circumstances when we truly wonder whether God is in control and can solve our problems. Jesus is going to show a situation where his betrayal and his seizure is such that he is not a victim, but he is in control. And not only to make sure that God's purposes are accomplished, but he protects his own. Come and see how God is in control of even circumstances that seem to be out of control.

We're going to continue looking at how Jesus was praying for His disciples that were present with Him. He's going to continue to do that, but He's going to make a surprising prayer request for future disciples, which means He's going to pray for you and me. Come and see what His prayer requests are for you and me.

Jesus’ Prayer for Himself and the Eleven
Jesus would frequently throughout the scriptures go by himself and pray. His disciples asked him to teach them how to pray and we call that teaching the Lord's Prayer, although that's not really what it was, it's the disciples prayer. We only have two or three opportunities in the scriptures to see Jesus's actual prayer. One was when he was praying at the tomb of Lazarus, he spoke out loud so that the people might come to believe. We see him praying in the Garden of Gethsemane where he asked this cup to be passed from him. In John 17 which we're going to take a look at today, he prays an extensive prayer. We're only going to look at the first part of that prayer and he's going to ask for four different matters to be answered by the Father. Come and see what those four requests are.

First Fruits
We celebrate what most of the world calls Easter or some called resurrection Sunday. I happen to call first verse but that's for a different time. The fact that Jesus rose from the dead is essential to the Christian faith. If he did not raise from the dead then our faith is in vain and the scripture says that. There are a number of people who have witnessed the resurrection of Jesus. The Apostle Paul outlines how many different appearances plus others and as well as over 500 people saw Jesus. We have this tendency that Jesus rose from the dead, appeared for a little while, then left. In reality he rose and was around the earth for 40 days before he ascended. Of all the various accounts of his resurrection we're going to take a look at one of my very favorite accounts. That's about two men who are traveling on a road from Jerusalem to Emmaus. We'll see and discuss their experience.

The Real Triumphal Entry
Palm Sunday. All those universally Christian churches on this day will celebrate Palm Sunday and as a part of that celebration will read or preach on what is called the triumphal entry. I want to take a little departure from that. I think that was an important entry by Jesus into Jerusalem but I think there is another real triumphal entry. Come and listen to what that alternative may be.

Jesus the Overcomer
While heading to the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus is going to be talking to his disciples and figurative language initially about his death and resurrection. He tells them that their reaction is going to be very different than the world's reaction, but their reaction is only going to be temporary and eventually their change reaction will be permanent. It will also tell them that during their time here on earth, they will be facing tribulation, but they can have peace because of what Jesus is going to do. Come see what Jesus says, how we can have peace.

Come and hear what these tasks are and what the difference is.

Jesus Really Means It
If you knew you were going to die within a few hours, or that you were to take a trip that you were going to be gone for a long time, and your loved ones and the people you cared about were gathered around you, what would you talk about? I suspect it would not be the weather or some other inconsequential things that you would talk about things that would be very important to you, and if you repeated those things it might be because they're very important to you. At this point we're going to take a look at the Scriptures where Jesus is going to be arrested in a few hours, and He's going to be teaching His disciples some additional information, but He keeps repeating Himself on one particular topic. Come and listen to see what that one particular topic is and how it should apply to our ministry as well.

Betrayal and Denial
Betrayal and denial. The foretold actions of two of Jesus' students or followers, what we would call disciples. These actions between friends would be despicable. When you consider it's against the Son of God, it's unfathomable. But we will show and see the difference between these two actions and these two men and the consequences thereof. And perhaps their actions are not the only ones.

Washing Other Peoples’ Feet
It is common to have to teach somebody a particular thing several times before they get it. When Jesus celebrates a Passover which is the last Passover he will celebrate with his disciples here on earth, what we call the Last Supper, Jesus is going to teach them, but he's going to do it in a unique fashion. He's going to teach them by an example, and then he's going to teach them what he meant by doing what he did. Come and listen to what Jesus did and what Jesus taught, which is so different than what the world expects us to do.
