After finishing my Master's Thesis (Malacandra), the last class for my degree was Jazz Theory. Since the idea of this song had been percolating in my head for quite awhile, I decided it was time to complete it. Not wanting to do another straight ballad with only voice and piano (The Magic of Two), I wanted to go for a 'big band' sound and think I came close.

This was my Masters Thesis project and a thorough joy to write. WTAMU's composition studio collaborates with the Amarillo Symphony and holds a contest every year. The winner of that contest has their piece performed by the Amarillo Symphony. This is the second performance of my Masters Thesis by the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra. April 22, 2023. I was on the program with Joyce Yang performing Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano Concerto so the symphony's rehearsal time was spent mostly with her - understandably so but I am pleased with the outcome, nonetheless.

When my kids were little, they loved to watch the cartoon 'Peep and the Big Wide World'. The music in these cartoons were short, catchy, jazzy little motives. Wanting to try my hand at writing for jazz, I used a motive from one of these episodes to produce this piece - my first foray into jazz writing (please be kind in the comments hehe). I enjoy seeing where I've come from compositionally. This wasn't bad for where my skill level was back then.

A Demo version of Caleb M. Brandon's song, 'Good Ol' Summertime'. Originally composed in 2002 for stings and an obligato clarinet, a piano arrangement was made by Ms. Jane Bate so that he could sing it at a 'Cabaret' dinner. He revisited the work to include a scaled down orchestra going for the old Hollywood feel in the spirit of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Enjoy!

A MIDI realization of IPv4 for Woodwind Quintet. IPv4 is a musical representation of the Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) addressing scheme. This piece applies the 5 classes of IPv4 (A, B, C, D, E) to the 5 parts of Sonata Form: Primary Theme (A), Transistion (B), Secondary Theme (C), Closing Theme (D), and Development (E). Each motive within the 5 parts of this Sonata is the pitch class equivalent of the IP address range with the rhythms being derived from the numbering scheme as well.
