Does the tonic remain "do" when we retune to another mode?

Traditional tune I've wanted to do for some time now. Tuned to about a flat Gdd on my Ivyton. The images where from a sunrise date with my wife back in October from the top of Clinch Mountain!

Old tune I got from I.D. Stamper and played on a piece loosely based on his 36 inch pieces. Tuned in a slacked Aeolian.
