When Ashton Kutcher signed up to run the 2022 New York City Marathon, he was "terrified." He had never run a marathon. But Kutcher is among the celebs running the 26.2 miles for a good cause. In his case, it's to raise money for Thorn, a non-profit he created that protects kids from sexual exploitation online. Other entertainers in the field with a cause attached include Claire Holt, Ellie Kemper, Lauren Ridloff, Matt James, Sierra Boggess and Zac Clark.

The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon has become known for its constant innovation, harnessing the latest trends, and elevating the event to become a world player, and this route is a testament to exactly that. The revised marathon route has involved months of collaboration between the City and the event’s passionate team, but we have achieved our goals and presented a route boasting a number of marked improvements that will make running the marathon that much better. Showing off virtually uninterrupted views of Table Mountain, and a sea-side race to the finish, the revised route showcases the best of the City, while climbing 380m of ascent over the 42.2km distance. It also enables the exciting addition of the elite wheelchair race to the marathon. In addition to being Africa’s only World Athletics Gold Label marathon, 2022 also marks the first of a three-year evaluation process as an Abbott World Marathon Majors Candidate. And, if successful, the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon will join New York Marathon, Chicago Marathon, Boston Marathon, Berlin Marathon, Tokyo Marathon, and London Marathon as an Abbott World Marathon Majors event in 2025.

Dimension Data Managing Director Richard Hechle has said use of data in the Stanchart Chattered Marathon has improved the status of the marathon in the region due to precise tabulation. Dimension data will offer tracking of athletes at this years edition of the race.

The New York City Marathon will come back in full force in November. Last year, the marathon returned to half-capacity as the country dealt with the ongoing pandemic. Now organizers say the race will be back at full strength in 2022, with approximately 50,000 runners expected to race across the 5 boroughs.
