The Battle of Chile 3, The Power of the People
The third of four films by Patricio Guzman covering the last days of the Salvatore Allende led government in Chile, and the new neo-fascist government of Gen Augusto Pinochet. This section is called The Power of the People, and was released in 1979.
This film does not continue the historical narration, but goes back and looks at the events already described, but from the point of view of the workers and their attempts at setting up organisations to run the country.
With the right trying its best to undermine the socialist advances of the Govt. bu organising strikes, hoarding essential items, and leaving land fallow, the workers take over transportation, distribution and start to build alliances with the peasantry so land can be put to use again.
In fact it seemed to work very well, with neighbourhoods setting up alliances to organise mutual aid, and to make sure that all the people are getting the basic supplies they need. But there is a blockade from the US, which is desperate that socialism should not succeed in south America, and times are difficult.

The Battle of Chile 2, The Coup d'Etat
The second of four films by Patricio Guzman covering the last days of the Salvatore Allende led government in Chile, and the new neo-fascist government of Gen Augusto Pinochet. This section is called The Coup d'Etat, and was released in 1976.
This section of the documentary looks at the attempted coup which the first film ended with. Here it is shown how the presidential guard managed to stave off the coup, and eventually the loyalist army came in and put an end to the attempt.
Not long after, however, one of the naval officers who was a chief liaison in the armed forces with the president was assassinated, leaving the president without a confidante in the armed forces.
That was probably a preliminary to what was to come, the take over of the state on Sept 11th, 1973, during which the president was killed, and the socialist experiment of the previous three years was overthrown.

The Battle of Chile 1, The Insurrection of the Bourgeoisie
The first of four films by Patricio Guzman covering the last days of the Salvadore Allende led government in Chile, and the new neo-fascist government of Gen Augusto Pinochet. This section is called The Insurrection of the Bourgeoisie, and was released in 1975.
Chile in a state of deep division, with a revolutionary socialist president on one side, and a congress controlled by the right, including the far-right National Party on the other. The actions of the congress continually undermine and many times nullify the policies that Allende is trying to pass.
The divisions are also seen in the workforce, with better-off transport and copper-mining workers striking for even better conditions, and being supported by the right, as it disrupts and makes it more difficult for the workers on the left and the government to continue.
The story in this episode culminates with a single brigade attacking the presidential palace and trying to overthrow the government.

The Obstinate Memory (remembering The Battle of Chile)
This film by Patricio Guzman looks at how people can remember events that have been removed from public life.
At the time of the making of this documentary Guzman’s film The Battle of Chile had never been shown in his home country and to the people it matters to most: those who witnessed and took part in the attempt to establish socialism under Salvadore Allende.
Guzman tracks down many of the people who appear in the film and asks them about those days, and also shows the film covertly to young people who know little of what happened in their own country.
At the end there is a 20-minute interview with Guzman about how he made the film, and what the difficulties were that he had to overcome.

Donbass, the Grey Zone
This is a film made in 2021 by RT about the terrible situation that prevailed in the so-called grey zone in the Donbass, that is the villages and towns that were situated between the Ukrainian armed forces and what at that time were the resistance fighters of the autonomous zones of the Donbass regions.
These attacks on the civilian population were taking place despite the Minsk agreements, which the Ukraine government never implemented, and there being supposed ceasefires, which were never applied. We also see footage taken by the Ukrainian side themselves in which they call for the killing of everyone in the regions, whether civilian or military.
People may have seen the devastation and destruction of buildings in the villages and towns that are featured prominently on western media, without realising that a lot of these places were destroyed long before the Russian intervention in February of this year, which started just before a massive attack on the regions was planned.
We hear from residents in these zones about the lives they faced with daily bombings and crossfire for the past eight years, and why they refuse to leave despite the danger. We also see the heroic efforts of everyone from simple electricians to relief workers who risk their lives to help those living there. We also see children who are as familiar with bombs and their parts as they are with their toys.

Fascism: A History
This film by RT was made in Sept. 2021 and looks at the rise of Fascism in Europe, and how it wasn't in any way an anamoly, which is how it is presented, but a continuation of colonial policy.
It illustrates the point by giving quotations from pre-Fasictic thinkers and leaders in Europe and the US, and how they were admired by Hitler and his ideologues. It looks at American support for Germany in the 30s as National Socilaism took hold.
It also looks at the parallels between the rise of Fascism in the 30s, and the rise of NATO and its aims in Europe, and how that is leading to war as inevitably as Hitler’s rise led to war. We also learn about NATO plans to devastate the USSR in a nuclear bombardment.
The film seems prescient now that we have a full scale proxy war being fought between Russia and NATO in the Ukraine, which has been one of the main policy objectives of NATO over the past few decades.

NATO’s Secret Armies
Prados & Ganser: NATOs Secret Armies Operation Gladio and Terrorism in Western Europe.
In case of a Soviet invasion of Western Europe the secret Gladio soldiers under NATO command would have formed a so-called stay-behind network operating behind enemy lines, strengthening and setting up local resistance movements in enemy-held territory, evacuating shot-down pilots and sabotaging the supply lines and production centres of the occupation forces with explosives. Yet the Soviet invasion never came.
The real and present danger in the eyes of the secret war strategists in Washington and London were the at-times numerically strong Communist parties in the democracies of Western Europe. Hence the network in the total absence of a Soviet invasion took up arms in numerous countries and fought a secret war against the political forces of the left.
The secret armies, as the secondary sources now available suggest, were involved in a whole series of terrorist operations and human rights violations that they wrongly blamed on the Communists in order to discredit the left at the polls.
The operations always aimed at spreading maximum fear among the population and ranged from bomb massacres in trains and market squares (Italy), the use of systematic torture of opponents of the regime (Turkey), the support for right-wing coup d’états (Greece and Turkey), to the smashing of opposition groups (Portugal and Spain).

Operation Gladio 1, The Ring Masters
This 3-part series exposes the clandestine 'stay-behind' operation sponsored by the CIA and NATO to counter communist influence after World War II in Italy, as well as in other European countries. The Gladio network of operatives is alleged to have been involved in various acts of terrorism, trying to influence policies through the means of 'false flag' operations.

Operation Gladio 3, The Foot Soldiers
Operation Gladio is the codename for clandestine "stay-behind" operations of armed resistance that were organized by the Western Union (WU), and subsequently by NATO and the CIA, in collaboration with several European intelligence agencies. The operation was designed for a potential Warsaw Pact invasion and conquest of Europe. Although Gladio specifically refers to the Italian branch of the NATO stay-behind organizations, "Operation Gladio" is used as an informal name for all of them. Stay-behind operations were prepared in many NATO member countries, and some neutral countries.

Donbas 2016 (French with Eng Subs)
For many people the war in Ukraine started in 2022, but there has actually been a war going on against Russian-speaking Ukrainians since the US-led coup in 2014.
This French report two years into the war, travels from village to village across the Donbas and gets eyewitness reports from those who have been suffering from this onslaught for years.
It is now 6 years since this was filmed, and the war against the Russian speaking population continued all that time.
Understanding the background to this war is essential, especially with the ongoing propaganda war being carried out in the west.

Evidence of Revision 4, The RFK Assassination
This is the fourth of a six-part series looking at events in the US in the 60s and 70s. The title Evidence of Revision is an indication of the way the narratives were being changed as they unfolded. An alternative title is The Assassination of America. The films make extensive use of picture-in-picture display, and have a very fine ambient music soundtrack.
The fourth film in this series looks at the circumstances surrounding the assassination of Robert F Kennedy 5 years after his brother. Following his brother’s assassination Robert Kennedy had stood for the Senate as a representative for New York State. Again his incorruptibility was evident as he continued his pursuit of organised crime, and tried to weed out corruption wherever it was found.
By 1968 he had decided to run for President, and he was well on a very popular run to being elected as the Democratic candidate to stand against Richard Nixon. It was in the midst of the primaries that he was gunned down at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles following his victory in the California.
This film starts at the hotel, and has it running as the background for much of the time as we learn more about RFK’s career and the many powerful enemies he made along the way. We then see extensive footage from the night itself, and hear from eye-witnesses, many of whose accounts differ from the official version of events.
I think even more than his brother Robert Kennedy represented the hopes of his generation for a different approach to politics, both at home and abroad, and this was not to everyone’s liking, and he was disposed of before he had chance to make the changes that were so needed.

Evidence of Revision 3, Hoover and Other
This is the third of a six-part series looking at events in the US in the 60s and 70s. The title Evidence of Revision is an indication of the way the narratives were being changed as they unfolded. An alternative title is The Assassination of America. The films make extensive use of picture-in-picture display, and have a very fine ambient music soundtrack.
This episode continues in more documentary format by looking at the life and career of J Edgar Hoover, and what hold the Mafia had over him which prevented organised crime from even being recognised, let alone pursued, for over a decade. All that changed when the Kennedys came to power, with Robert Kennedy as the new Attorney General, alongside the President. It also exposes how Hoover in turn had power over JFK owing to his womanising to a point which bordered on blackmail.
In the later part of this episode we hear from witnesses who were on the fringes of the action during the critical days in November 1963, and what they saw and heard, which brings damning evidence against Lyndon B Johnson, the man who gained the most out of the assassination, becoming the 36th president.
We find out much more about the corruption of LBJ throughout his political career, and how he may have been involved in many more murders that previously known about. After the killing it was LBJ, and his friends in Texas, who organised the cover up, and then controlled the story about the killing.

Inside Job (2008 Financial Crisis)
This is an excellent documentary about the 2008 financial crisis, made in 2010 by Charles Ferguson, which caused a loss of $20 trillion, and tens of millions of jobs worldwide. The main cause of the collapse was the self-serving interface between politicians, economists and academics that created the crisis, based on a flawed economic model.
The film is divided into five parts:
1. How We Got Here looks at how deregulation and the development of complex financial instruments happened starting with the Reagan years.
2. The Bubble examines the causes of the sub-prime mortgage loans which were so toxic during the early 2000s.
3. The Crisis looks at how the collapse played out, and why companies and banks that were on the brink of disaster were still being given good ratings by the agencies.
4. Accountability shows how, even though the whole market had been driven by greed and insider trading no one had to pay for it except the poor.
5. Where We Are Now looks at what has happened since to bring these institutions under control – which is approximately zero.
We are not even back at the beginning, but in a worse position now that before the crisis. It is now 10 years since this film was made, and seemingly nothing has been learned in the meantime. With the debt bubble in the US at an all-time high, and another collapse imminent, the only question is not if, but when. We already know though who will pay, and it will not be the top 1%.

Who Controls All of Our Money?
This is a primer on money, especially fiat money, where it comes from, who makes it, why is it losing value, and how did this system ever come about?
Most people, I guess, know that with money they can go into a shop and buy things, and for their labour they can get more and can do the same again, fairly reliably. I don’t suppose many even think of, let alone care to know, where the money comes from. It works, and it is enough.
However, to understand our economic system, and how we are running on a debt that is growing at an ever-increasing speed, we need to look at where money comes from. The surprising thing is that fiat money is exactly that: money that is so because someone declared it so.
How did we get to this position? That is what the video by the coldfusion.tv team attempt to explain, so we can all be a bit wiser, and a bit more wary about the world we are living in. Understanding is important, because when you understand the system, you may want a better one.

The Bank that almost broke Britain
This is the extraordinary story of the Royal Bank of Scotland, and how it went from being in danger of being absorbed by larger banks in the 80s, and grew and grew to become the 5th largest back in the world by 2008, which is when a series of bad decisions almost brought down the whole UK economy.
The film is an interwoven story of the days of the collapse in 2008, and flashbacks looking at how it had grown so large over the preceding decades, and rather than being the subject of a merger was itself taking over scores of smaller banks around the world.
At the centre of the story is Fred Goodwin, who on the one hand steered it to unprecedented success, and whose recklessness at the beginning of the collapse of the sub-prime market in the States decided to push through an acquisition which soon left his own bank with insufficient funds to continue day to day activities.
The story is presented to show how the actions of the government of the day took the necessary steps to avoid disaster by bailing out RBS and 9 other banks on the brink of collapse with £50 billion of taxpayers money. That is scandal enough. But the truth is that Goodwin who brought the bank – and the country – almost to collapse enjoys somewhere in the region of £50 million / year in retirement funds as a payoff for his services.

The Spider's Web, Britain's Second Empire
This is a very interesting film based on Nicholas Shaxson’s book Treasure Islands, which traces the rise of Britain’s offshore tax havens following the collapse of the British Empire after WWII. During the Empire days of course London was the financial capital of the world, but following it’s gradual collapse bankers had to look for new ventures.
One of the main expressions of that has been the setting up of secrecy jurisdictions in British dominions, like the Cayman Islands, Bahamas, Jersey and other outposts. These have special rules so that people and corporations can effectively hide their wealth from Governments, in turn increasing taxation of the ordinary person.
This has not only affected the wealthy countries, but also the elites in developing countries take their wealth out of those countries and into hidden assets, which remain under their control, but are not traceable back to them.
The interesting thing is how much cryptocurrencies are criticised for being susceptible to money laundering, tax evasion and terrorism financing, when the main people making these criticisms are deeply engaged in just those activities.
In fact blockchain technologies promise much more transparency, and a more level playing field than we have at present, where the rich are getting much richer, and the poor are actually subsidising their wealth.
This film by Michael Oswald was made for the astonishingly low budget of £4,000, but is exceptionally well researched and presented. It features interviews with Nicholas Shaxson, Ronen Palan. Alex Cobham, Prem Sikka, John Christensen and many more, and is illustrated by archival footage.

Princes of the Yen
Richard Werner is a German economist who specialised in the Japanese economy, and eventually wrote a very well-received book called Princes of the Yen: Japan’s Central Bankers and the Transformation of the Economy which traced the development of the economy in Japan in the post-war years, and showed how the Central Bank of Japan created a crisis in what was a well-functioning economy in order to institute structural change leading to the independence of the Central Bank itself.
This film is basically readings from that book retracing the story, with occasional recordings of Werner on contemporary TV and talk shows, and shows how this model of crisis creation was duplicated in other economies around the world in order to produce outcomes that were basically political in scope. Countries such as South Korea, Thailand and Indonesia all had similar pressures placed on them.
A main mover in these structural reforms has been the American model of a so-called ‘free market’, and world bodies like the International Monetary Fund which has been implementing US policy around the world. The film also warns about the Central Bank of Europe, which has similar powers and has been undermining local economies in Europe.
The documentary therefore is definitely worth watching, and provides a great insight into the hidden workings of the banking sector, but is somewhat let down by the visual material, which mainly consists of film of life in Japan, much of which is totally irrelevant to the story being told, and seems to be there just to fill what would be an otherwise blank screen.

Who Killed Robert Kennedy?
Fifty years ago, United States Senator Robert F Kennedy was assassinated at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles just moments after he'd won California's Democratic presidential primary.
Sirhan Bishara Sirhan, a Palestinian with Jordanian citizenship, was arrested at the scene of the shooting in what the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) thought was an open-and-shut case.
Sirhan was tried and jailed for Robert Kennedy's murder. But since the 1970s, there have been calls for a new investigation into the assassination, based on differing witness accounts, the number of shots fired and distance of Sirhan from Kennedy when he fired.
"We're trying to prove there was a travesty of justice in 1969 at Sirhan's trial. We're trying to prove that there was no way that he could have shot the senator, let alone have killed the senator," says Laurie Dusek, a member of Sirhan's defence team.
Kennedy's wounds suggest his assassin - or assassins - stood behind him, but eyewitnesses place Sirhan about a metre away and almost in front of him. This has led to suggestions that a second gunman may have fired the fatal shot, a theory supported by Chief Medical Examiner-Coroner for the County of Los Angeles, Thomas Noguchi, who stated in his report that the shot that killed Kennedy was fired at the point-blank range next to his right ear.
"The only way to explain this that there was a second gunman in a position behind Kennedy, but the prosecution never proved that Sirhan was behind Kennedy or was able to shoot him point blank," says eyewitness Paul Schrade.
Witness accounts and more recent forensic analysis support the view that more bullets were fired at the scene than Sirhan could have had in his gun.
Sirhan's .22 Iver-Johnson revolver could only hold eight bullets, yet as many as 13 shots may have been fired at the scene. Two FBI investigators who attended the crime scene right after the assassination stated that they had discovered two bullets in a door frame - bullets that were not mentioned in the LAPD's report.
"If a second gun is not firing, there cannot be any bullet holes in the wooden door frames," explains William Klaber, a journalist and writer who has studied the case extensively. "So the police take those door frames down and they bring them to the police station to do work on them. It turns out these bullets represent too many bullets. Sirhan's gun holds eight bullets."
Robert Kennedy's death, like the 1963 assassination of his older brother, President John F Kennedy, has been the subject of many conspiracy theories.
One suggests that if Bobby were ever elected president, it's almost certain he would have ordered a fresh investigation into his brother's assassination, unconvinced as he was by the official version in the Warren Commission report. Other theories include had Robert Kennedy been elected president, he would have taken steps to end the war in Vietnam.
RFK was a principled politician, a New York senator who cared about poverty in the south and racial segregation everywhere. His ideals of a more equal society were never realised but the scale of grief following his death showed how much people appreciated him.
After his body had been flown from California to New York, it was put on board a train to Washington, DC for burial next to his brother John at Arlington National Cemetery - and the railway line was lined with millions of mourners. The journey, however, to establish clearly how he died is still incomplete.

Evidence of Revision 2, Motives for Murder, LBJ and Vietnam
This is the second of a six-part series looking at events in the US in the 60s and 70s. The title Evidence of Revision is an indication of the way the narratives were being changed as they unfolded. An alternative title is The Assassination of America. The films make extensive use of picture-in-picture display, and have a very fine ambient music soundtrack.
This episode first looks at the aftermath of the Kennedy assassination, and who gained from it, before tracing the many groups and people who may have had a motive for having the President killed.
The film differs in its second half by quoting extensively from old documentaries that have were made around the time of the initial investigations into the assassination, in which various theories were brought forward about who might have been responsible.
It traces the shady history of the incoming President, Lyndon B Johnson, and examines his political shenanigans and underworld connections. According to one of the theories given here he may have been involved in the murder of at least six other people, besides the President.
Many others had reason to have Kennedy removed, including the CIA, FBI, anti-Castro groups, anti-communist groups, big business and the mafia. The film presents no conclusive evidence, but certainly more than is commonly available in the history books.

Bob Dylan, Murder Most Foul
Murder Most Foul by Bob Dylan
Twas a dark day in Dallas, November '63
A day that will live on in infamy
President Kennedy was a-ridin’ high
Good day to be livin' and a good day to die
Being led to the slaughter like a sacrificial lamb
He said, "Wait a minute, boys, you know who I am?"
"Of course we do. We know who you are."
Then they blew off his head while he was still in the car
Shot down like a dog in broad daylight
Was a matter of timing and the timing was right
You got unpaid debts; we've come to collect
We're gonna kill you with hatred; without any respect
We'll mock you and shock you and we'll put it in your face
We've already got someone here to take your place
The day they blew out the brains of the king
Thousands were watching; no one saw a thing
It happened so quickly, so quick, by surprise
Right there in front of everyone's eyes
Greatest magic trick ever under the sun
Perfectly executed, skillfully done
Wolfman, oh wolfman, oh wolfman howl
Rub-a-dub-dub, it's a murder most foul
Hush, little children. You'll understand
The Beatles are comin'; they're gonna hold your hand
Slide down the banister, go get your coat
Ferry 'cross the Mersey and go for the throat
There's three bums comin' all dressed in rags
Pick up the pieces and lower the flags
I'm going to Woodstock; it's the Aquarian Age
Then I'll go to Altamont and sit near the stage
Put your head out the window; let the good times roll
There's a party going on behind the Grassy Knoll
Stack up the bricks, pour the cement
Don't say Dallas don't love you, Mr. President
Put your foot in the tank and step on the gas
Try to make it to the triple underpass
Blackface singer, whiteface clown
Better not show your faces after the sun goes down
Up in the red light district, they've got cop on the beat
Living in a nightmare on Elm Street
When you're down in Deep Ellum, put your money in your shoe
Don't ask what your country can do for you
Cash on the barrelhead, money to burn
Dealey Plaza, make left-hand turn
I'm going down to the crossroads; gonna flag a ride
The place where faith, hope, and charity died
Shoot him while he runs, boy. Shoot him while you can
See if you can shoot the invisible man
Goodbye, Charlie. Goodbye, Uncle Sam
Frankly, Miss Scarlett, I don't give a damn
What is the truth, and where did it go?
Ask Oswald and Ruby; they oughta know
"Shut your mouth," said the wise old owl
Business is business, and it's a murder most foul
Tommy, can you hear me? I'm the Acid Queen
I'm riding in a long, black Lincoln limousine
Riding in the backseat next to my wife
Heading straight on in to the afterlife
I'm leaning to the left; got my head in her lap
Oh Lord, I've been led into some kind of a trap
Where we ask no quarter, and no quarter do we give
We're right down the street from the street where you live
They mutilated his body, and they took out his brain
What more could they do? They piled on the pain
But his soul's not there where it was supposed to be at
For the last fifty years they've been searchin' for that
Freedom, oh freedom. Freedom over me
I hate to tell you, mister, but only dead men are free
Send me some lovin'; tell me no lies
Throw the gun in the gutter and walk on by
Wake up, little Susie; let's go for a drive
Cross the Trinity River; let's keep hope alive
Turn the radio on; don't touch the dials
Parkland hospital, only six more miles
You got me dizzy, Miss Lizzy. You filled me with lead
That magic bullet of yours has gone to my head
I'm just a patsy like Patsy Cline
Never shot anyone from in front or behind
I've blood in my eye, got blood in my ear
I'm never gonna make it to the new frontier
Zapruder's film I seen night before
Seen it 33 times, maybe more
It's vile and deceitful. It's cruel and it's mean
Ugliest thing that you ever have seen
They killed him once and they killed him twice
Killed him like a human sacrifice
The day that they killed him, someone said to me, "Son
The age of the Antichrist has only begun."
Air Force One coming in through the gate
Johnson sworn in at two-thirty-eight
Let me know when you decide to thrown in the towel
It is what it is, and it's murder most foul
What's new, pussycat? What'd I say?
I said the soul of a nation been torn away
And it's beginning to go into a slow decay
And that it's 36 hours past Judgment Day

Evidence of Revision 1, The Assassinations of Kennedy and Oswald
This is the first of a six-part series looking at events in the US in the 60s and 70s. The title Evidence of Revision is an indication of the way the narratives were being changed as they unfolded. An alternative title is The Assassination of America. The films make extensive use of picture in picture display, and has a very fine ambient music soundtrack.
The first in the series looks at the assassination of John F Kennedy, through eye-witness accounts and news reports as they came out during that day and the days which followed, much of it previously lost to public access.
The most important witness who is presented is Roger Craig, a Dallas County Deputy Sheriff who was on duty at Dealey Plaza as the assassination took place, and who was one of the first persons to enter the Texas School Book Depository from where shots were fired.
The film also follows what happened when Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested, and his almost impossible gunning down as he was being transferred from the city jail to the county jail. His killer, Jack Ruby, famously said: “The people who had so much to gain, and had such an ulterior motive for putting me in the position I\'m in, will never let the true facts come above board to the world.”
