If you are afraid of snakes...
A bucketful of Plains garter snakes being released into the wild. The Plains garter snake (Thamnophis radix) native range extends from central Alberta to as far south as Texas. While their bite is mildly venomous it is not toxic to humans and they are considered to be quite harmless. These snakes are being relocated to a native prairie grass environment after attempting to enter a house basement in an effort to hibernate there for the winter where they will mate. Five to forty young are born alive from July onward, and are about 180mm (7 inches) in length. Successful relocation can only occur if the garter snakes are moved to a site that is at least 15 miles away from their traditional hibernation site. Compared to other Garter Snake species, the Plains Garter Snake can be distinguished by its bright orange/red and yellow markings. These snakes are filmed being released into the native prairie grasslands of southern Saskatchewan.
