Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the world's longest-reigning monarch, has died after 70 years on the throne, the palace says.
The king, 88, was widely revered in Thailand. He was seen as a stabilising figure in a country hit by cycles of political turmoil and multiple coups.
He had been in poor health in recent years and made few public appearances. The king's death comes as Thailand remains under military rule following a coup in 2014.

BREAKING NEWS FROM THAILAND: Thai ex-policeman kills 34 in Northern Province - Fabulous 103fm
Police reports indicate that at least 34 people, including 23 young children, have been killed by a crazed ex-policeman, at a child development centre in the North Eastern region of Nong Bua Lamphu this afternoon, Thursday, just after noon.
As details are slowly released, it's been confirmed that a 34 year old former police Lieutenants shot and stabbed all in his path before fleeing the scene with his own wife and own child or children. There is confusion as to whether he had 3 children or a single child of the age of three. Either way, all were killed before he finally turned his gun on himself, and was found dead BY police.
Witnesses claim he entered the centre armed with a gun and knife, said very little if anything but spewed bullets as he passed through the facility.
Armed police who attended the child care centre scene found bodies scattered across classrooms, play areas and hallways, in what can only be described as a wanton attack on all and everyone he came in contact with. Emergency services attended from various points around the region, aiding those injured but mainly covering the corpses of the dead, as parents of those dead youngsters raced the school and were not prevented from entering. At least another dozen are said to be in critical condition and currently under hospital supervision.
While no motive has been so far given for the attack, the ex-cop was due to face a court hearing on charges relating to the trafficking of drugs. Previously, he was ordered to leave the police force locally after failing drug testing and being investigated as a user and trafficker having confessed to possession of methamphetamines.
As a developing story, Fabulous 103 will update this bulletin as more details are released.

Thailand protests: More than 40 injured as clashes rock Bangkok - BBC News
At least 41 people were left injured after clashes between protesters and police in the Thai capital, Bangkok.
Protesters were attempting to reach parliament on Tuesday, where lawmakers were debating possible changes to the constitution.
They hurled smoke bombs and bags of paint at police, who retaliated with water cannon and tear-gas solution.
The proposed constitutional changes have been one of the core demands of the months-long protest movement.
Others included reforms to the monarchy and the removal of Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha - a former general who seized power in a 2014 coup.
But the BBC's Jonathan Head, who was at the scene, said many activists were worried that parliament would dismiss most of their demands - in particular, the one calling for reform of the monarchy.
