Is surveillance capitalism the new norm?
Is surveillance capitalism the new norm?
"The age of surveillance capitalism is a titanic struggle between capital and each one of us. It is a direct intervention into free will, an assault on human autonomy. It is the capture of our intimate personal details, even of our faces" - Shoshanna Zuboff, Harvard Professor and Social Psychologist
No matter your politics or cultural beliefs, everyone should be concerned about our shared threat!

Does Incognito Mode Protect Me?
Does Incognito Mode Protect Me?
Pretend you are in a house. Your house has windows to the outside world, but it also has walls that separate rooms in the house. So if you want to change your clothes and you don't want your mom to see you, you might go into another room. However, when you are using "incognito" mode you are still changing in front of the open window where the rest of the world can see what you are doing.
In essence, you are preventing the cookies, history, etc from being stored on the local device (so if someone picks up your phone they won't see where you have been), but anyone monitoring your activity from the outside isn't affected.
Check out the details here: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/7440301
Better to use a service like Duck Duck Go or Brave Browser that ACTUALLY respects your privacy and actively blocks companies from collecting your data.

I don't give a **** about what happens with my data!
I don't give a **** about what happens with my data!
It's not just about getting more specific advertising. You might think like most people that you have nothing to hide so it doesn't matter, but it's not about the data you willingly share. It's the data you DON'T KNOW you are sharing. You are giving up intimate details about your personal life, your IQ, your sex life, and more when you allow social media companies and others to collect your data. You are giving companies a manual on how to persuade you in more ways than you know!
Take control of your online persona and really weigh the benefits of using products that are seemingly free but come at a cost we have yet to reckon with.

Don't Allow Third Parties to Own Your Community
Don't Allow Third Parties to Own Your Community
In the age of cancel culture, it is more imperative than ever for businesses and content creators to own their community and the data from that community. Don't let TikTok, Facebook, Youtube, or Twitter to decide the content you can create and share with the audience that CHOOSES to follow your content. Own your data on platforms that respect privacy, data ownership and free speech.

Conversations on Facebook Communities
Conversations on Facebook Communities
Facebook communities are an endless source of entertainment, albeit mind-numbingly frustrating entertainment. I think most of us would agree that if we start posting as if the person was standing next to us we might all act a little more civil.

This app is selling data on kids
The popular family safety app, Life360, is selling data on kids and families whereabouts. Revealing information on you and your kids habits and location is a HUGE breach of our trust and our data. We NEED legislation and other options from companies that respect our privacy and don't exploit it.

Would you support the DELETE ACT?
Would you support the DELETE Act?
The DELETE Act is a one-time opt-out from data collection. All the data collected about you when you shop or visit online websites and they build a persona about who they think you are. They then sell that data to make money based on our habits and you guessed it, to sell us more stuff.
The DELETE Act would essentially mirror the "do not call" list that already exists to remove you from spam calls. Yeah it doesn't work 100% of the time but it is still much better than no protection at all. And if the spammers, or data collectors in this case don't follow the rules there would be real repercussions. Something that doesn't exist today. We will keep you posted on the progress, but let us know in the comments what you think of the DELETE Act and whether you would support it.

TikTok Will Be Banned from the U.S.?
TikTok Will Be Banned from the U.S.?
Will TikTok be banned from the U.S.? TikTok is harvesting data on a multitude of U.S. Citizens. Scooping up all of our dog videos and teens dancing, what's the big deal? Well, the U.S. not only wants to ban TikTok because of the direct influence China can have through programmatic marketing, but also that isn't contributing to our GDP. When you mess with the money people pay attention. Keep posted for news on where TikTok goes and do you think it should be banned?

Gone Phishing: Don't Give Your Money To Strangers
Gone Phishing: Don't Give Your Money To Strangers
Phishing for passwords and account data is more sophisticated than ever. You need to be smart before responding to money making schemes, coaches, etc. Follow the golden rule, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is! If you have the ability to use two-factor authentication, use it. If someone is pretending to be a friend, family member, or acquaintance ask a question that you know they can't easily fake. Bottom line: stay safe out there and when possible connect with people you trust on platforms that respect your data privacy and security.

You Might Be A Bot and Not Even Know It!
The content you post on social media is scraped and used to create bot users all over the web. You might have heard of the bot debate in Elon Musks Twitter purchase, but you probably never guessed that your data may likely have been used to create one of them. All social media platforms have to deal with fake accounts, but you can use a platform that protects your data and has measures in place to protect you!

Hurry...Put it on the Facebook Page! It feels like social media has just become a place for people to spread rumors and talk trash without any regard for the person on the other end. We're tired of having another community of strangers and that's why we are building a community based on trust.
