On Wednesday, the United Nations released its annual World Happiness Report and confirmed the Nordic country as the reigning champion of joy. But in many ways, the land of frigid temperatures and dark winter days seems like the most unlikely of choices.

Email us with your story: cnainsider@mediacorp.com.sg) She reveals how scammers first developed an emotional intimacy by showing concern for her over weeks. They then brainwashed her into investing in a fake platform despite her doubts. They also told her not to tell her loved ones about the platform when instructed to borrow money from them. “It’s not because I’m too dumb, it’s just because (the scammers) are too good,” said Han Ni. Scammers often work in teams of four or five just to target one victim. They develop psychologically manipulative conversation scripts tailored to each victim through detailed analysis of the victim’s chat behaviour and social media. By sharing her story, Han Ni hopes to expose their tactics to prevent others from falling for them.

Singapore takes a strong stance against crypto speculation and trading, especially by retail investors. Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said this is even as the country is on the right track to go big on digital assets innovation. He was speaking at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum. Mr Wong recognises digital assets as an important enabler in transforming financial markets, and reiterated the potential in cross-border payments, settlements and capital markets.

Maria Ainamo-McDonald, 30, earns the equivalent of $48,000 a year as a marketing specialist at the broadcasting company YLE. She lives in Helsinki, Finland where she’s been able to buy two homes before turning 30. Here’s how Maria earns, spends and saves her money in the happiest country in the world. This is the latest installment of Millennial Money, which profiles people across the U.S. and details how they earn and spend their money. Maria lives comfortably on $48,000, but in an ideal world, would make closer to $75,000. She picked that amount after reading studies that suggest you need about that much to be happy. While it’s a goal in the back of her mind, “I don’t actively work for that to happen,” she adds. “I don’t do my work because of money. I do my work because I enjoy it.” Ainamo-McDonald spends about $527 per month on groceries, including diapers, for the whole family. She also spends an additional $111 eating out. That’s enough to cover just one night out for the family at a nice restaurant. “In Finland, going out for dinner is super expensive, especially if you want to have alcohol,” she says. She gets lunch at work every day. It costs about $8 and is taken straight out of her paycheck. Ainamo-McDonald bought her first apartment in Helsinki, Finland, at 26. She recently sold it, came out $21,000* ahead and used the profits to upgrade to a bigger home that she shares with her husband, Duke, and their two-year-old son. It was a significant purchase: The four-bedroom apartment cost $326,000 all-in. The couple put $78,000 down, financed the rest and split the $932 monthly mortgage payment, which includes interest. Plus, she plans on staying put for a while. “I was born in Helsinki,” she says. “And I’ve always liked Helsinki.” You can’t beat the health-care system and parental leave policy, she adds. “In my humble opinion, Finland is the best place to have kids.” It’s also the happiest country, according to the 2019 World Happiness Report. Aianamo-McDonald agrees with the assessment. “Everything is very good in this country: Everybody has food and shelter and free education, which I think is the key. You have the possibility of being very happy here — then, of course, it’s up to the individual to decide if they want to grab that chance.”

Elena Haskins earns $50,000 a year as a graphic designer in Brooklyn, New York. The 23-year-old has $11,000 in student debt, but her salary is enough for her to live 'comfortably' in New York City. She also has a freelance photography side hustle and recently launched a website that serves as a guide for recent college grads. Eleana Haskins moved to New York City after graduating from college in the spring of 2018. She may be a recent college graduate, but she's not a novice when it comes to work. “I’ve always had part-time jobs,” she tells CNBC Make It. “I think it’s important to have a side income, even if you have support from your family. You want to have your own money.” In addition to her full-time job as an associate designer at PEI, a finance media and conference company, Haskins has several side hustles including a freelance photography gig and a website for recent college grads. While her side hustles don't boost her income significantly, she appreciates the extra income. Haskins, who started her full-time job in September 2018, is happy with her $50,000 starting salary, but her goal is to make $100,000 a year by age 30.

Fallon Schwurack moved to New York City from Salt Lake City, Utah to pursue her dream of being a musical theatre dancer. To make ends meet, she works full time as a server, while attending dance auditions. Fallon says she lives very comfortably in NYC on her server income. She makes less money dancing than serving, but Fallon says her happiness is more important than her salary. Here's how she earns and spends her money. Fallon Schwurack tried to quit dancing. She went to college and earned a degree in biology. She worked in a lab for a few years and had plans to go back to school to become a medical examiner. But then a friend asked her to dance in a show as a favor. She accepted — and fell back in love with with dancing. Schwurack first learned to dance when she was just three years old and, after graduating from high school in Salt Lake City, she spent a year dancing professionally for a local ballet company. After getting pulled back onstage, she started going to auditions and landing parts in local performances around Salt Lake. Realizing she wanted to pursue dance full-time, she abandoned her plan to go back to school. So, in 2016, one day before her 30th birthday, Schwurack moved to New York City to try and dance professionally. She works as a restaurant server to make ends meet. Now 32, she's still building her career but, she says, she's able to live "very, very comfortably" on what she makes, and "getting to be able to dance every day is one of the best feelings I've ever had." Although dance is Schwurack's passion, she acknowledges that "it's really hard, actually being a dancer in New York City." For one thing, the competition is fierce: "When I go to an audition, open calls usually have around 300 girls there at least." And when Schwurack does land a job, it's both short-term and means taking a pay cut. "You live the poor actor life unless you have certain side jobs that make the money because a lot of the contracts aren't very lasting," she says. "Even if you get on Broadway they can last for a month or two, maybe up to six months. There's a few shows that are running for years, but things change and you might leave a show even if it doesn't close." Most of Schwurack's contracts have lasted around two months and paid between $350 and $500 per week. Because she's a non-equity dancer, her rates are lower. Equity dancers earn closer to $900 per week or more, she says. When she's not dancing, Schwurack works at the restaurant Tony's Di Napoli, where she earns around $60,000 a year.
