NASA, NOAA Climate Experts Discuss Record-Breaking Heat
On the heels of record-breaking June temperatures, climate experts from NASA and NOAA (the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration) will discuss the latest findings, and how using satellite data can help manage the effects of climate change.
Participants include:
• Bill Nelson, administrator, NASA
• Kate Calvin, chief scientist and senior climate advisor, NASA
Headquarters
• Karen St. Germain, director, Earth Science Division, NASA
Headquarters • Gavin Schmidt, director, NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies,
New York
• Carlos Del Castillo, chief, Ocean Ecology Laboratory at NASA Goddard
Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland • Sarah Kapnick, chief scientist, NOAA
Then, join us at 3:30 p.m. EDT (1930 UTC) for a NASA Science Live episode to discuss recent climate trends. Ask questions in our live chat and they may get answered on air:

NASA's SpaceX Crew-6 Pre-Departure News Conference (Aug. 23, 2023)
After nearly six months aboard the International Space Station, the astronauts of NASA's SpaceX Crew-6 mission take questions from media and the public before their upcoming return to Earth, currently scheduled for Sept. 2, 2023.
Participants include:
- NASA astronaut Stephen Bowen, mission commander
- NASA astronaut Warren "Woody" Hoburg, pilot - United Arab Emirates (UAE) astronaut Sultan Alneyadi, mission
specialist
- Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev, mission specialist
Since docking to the station on March 3, 2023, the members of Crew-6 have contributed to hundreds of experiments and technology demonstrations, including student robotic challenges, plant genetics, and human health in microgravity to prepare for exploration beyond low Earth orbit while benefiting life on Earth.
Members of the public with questions for the crew are encouraged to share them on X (formerly known as Twitter) with the hashtag #AskNASA before and during the conference.

NASA's Artemis I Mission Begins Departure from Lunar Orbit.
NASA will begin coverage of the Orion spacecraft performing the first of two maneuvers to exit lunar orbit, called the distant retrograde orbit departure burn, on Dec. 1 at 4:30 p.m. EST (21:30 UTC). The burn is scheduled to occur at 4:53 p.m. EST (21:53 UTC).
Orion launched aboard the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket at 1:47 a.m. EST (06:47 UTC) on Nov. 16 from historic Launch Complex 39B at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. Orion entered a distant retrograde orbit on at 4:52 p.m. EST (21:52 UTC) on Nov. 25, where the spacecraft has been testing systems in a deep space environment.
The Artemis I mission is the first integrated test of NASA's deep space exploration systems: the Orion spacecraft, the SLS rocket, and Kennedy Space Center ground systems.

STS-129 HD Launch
Space shuttle Atlantis and its six-member crew began an 11-day delivery flight to the International Space Station on Monday with a 2:28 p.m. EST launch from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The shuttle will transport spare hardware to the outpost and return a station crew member who spent more than two months in space.
Atlantis is carrying about 30,000 pounds of replacement parts for systems that provide power to the station, keep it from overheating, and maintain a proper orientation in space. The large equipment can best be transported using the shuttle's unique capabilities.

Artemis | Path to the Pad: Launch and Recovery
On Nov. 16, 2022, NASA made history with the launch of our Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft - our newest transportation system that will return humans to the Moon. Relive the powerful moment SLS rumbled away from Earth, beginning Orion's three-week test flight around the Moon, and watch as we document Orion's splashdown in the Pacific Ocean, closing the first chapter in America's next deep space exploration story.
