Frank Dunning is a World War 2 veteran, from the Royal Artillery's 135th Field Regiment. The division was deployed to Fortress Singapore during WWII, where they held out against the Japanese until the Fall of Singapore. Resulting in the largest British surrender in history. From there, Frank and his fellow prisoners of war were sent to camps, and later used by Japan as slave labor on the Burma Railway. The Naval Battle of Guadalcanal was the decisive engagement in a series of naval battles between Allied and Imperial Japanese forces. The action consisted of combined air and sea engagements over four days, most near Guadalcanal and all related to a Japanese effort to reinforce land forces on the island. Allied aircraft sank most of the Japanese troop transports and prevented the majority of the Japanese troops and equipment from reaching Guadalcanal. The capture of the airfield did not end the fighting on Guadalcanal. The Japanese still had control of the seas, and a fresh force soon arrived to retake the island from the Allies.
